WHL PLAYOFFS
Lynden Lakovic’s fourth goal of the playoffs was his biggest yet, scoring at 2:57 of overtime on Sunday to give the Moose Jaw Warriors a 4-3 victory over the Saskatoon Blades. The Warriors’ home victory is sending the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Conference Final to a Game 7 on Tuesday in Saskatoon.
In a series which has seen five of the six games go to overtime, Game 6 saw Moose Jaw leading 2-1 after the opening 20 minutes thanks to a pair of goals from Brayden Schuurman, and Saskatoon’s Egor Sidorov finding the back of the net.
Goals by Rowan Calvert and Charlie Wright gave the Blades a 3-2 lead in the third period, however the Warriors’ Rilan Kovacevic tied it at 3-3 at the 10:56 mark. That set the stage for Lakovic’s heroics, beating Blades goalie Evan Gardner.
In an incredibly even game, Moose Jaw outshot Saskatoon 35-33 while going 0/1 on the powerplay. The Blades went 1/1 with the extra man.
Game 7 goes Tuesday at 7 pm at SaskTel Centre.
