Matt Beleskey scored his 14th goal and Frederik Andersen made 21 saves in the Anaheim Ducks’ fifth consecutive victory, 2-1 over the spiralling Edmonton Oilers. Ryan Kesler also scored for the NHL-leading Ducks, who held off last-place Edmonton’s late charge for their eighth win in 10 games.

James Reimer stole a victory for the Maple Leafs in Detroit. Reimer stopped 41 shots — including all 18 he faced in the third period — as Toronto slipped past the Red Wings 2-1 in a shootout. Mike Santorelli scored the winner while Phil Kessel forced extra time with a goal in the third period.

Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry shook off slow starts to finish with a flurry, and the Golden State Warriors extended their franchise-best winning streak to 14 games by beating the Houston Rockets 105-93. Thompson scored 21 points and Curry added 20 points.

Vaughn, Ontario’s Andrew Wiggins recorded his first-career double double with 23 points and 10 rebounds as the Minnesota Timberwolves stunned the Portland Trail Blazers with a 90-82 victory. The win snapped a six-game skid for the Wolves and halted the Blazers’ five-game win streak.

Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton has been discharged from the hospital following a two-car crash that left the two-time Pro Bowl Q-B with two fractures in his lower back. Team spokesman Charlie Dayton says that Newton has gone home to recuperate with his family and that he is stiff and sore, but otherwise in good spirits.

Alex Rodriguez remains over the weight the New York Yankees want him to be at when he reports to spring training in two months. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Matthew Krause, the team’s strength and conditioning co-ordinator, visited A-Rod in Miami. Rodriguez is coming off a season-long suspension for violations of baseball’s drug agreement and turns 40 in July.

Gotta wonder how much longer until the Oilers are forced to replace the head coach. 1 win in 14 games and it could get even worse. To think you have no shot of making the playoffs and it is only mid Dec. A lot of meaningless games for Oil country AGAIN!
