GUARD TO REPLACE LEONARD

The Raiders are pleased to announce that Kelly Guard has been promoted to full-time assistant coach. Kelly has been with the team for two seasons as the goaltending and strength & conditioning coach. Guard replaces Tim Leonard who stepped down for personal reasons this week.

“We are pleased to add Kelly on a full-time basis, he brings a fresh perspective to our coaching staff, ” Bruno Campese, Raiders General Manager.

 

Guard played in the WHL from 2002-2004, winning a Memorial Cup Championship in 2004 with the Kelowna Rockets. He was named the Memorial Cup’s top goaltender and most valuable player and set a CHL record for the best goals against average at 0.75. Kelly also still maintains the best goals against average in the WHL at 1.56 from the 2003-2004 season with Kelowna. He went on to sign a professional contract with the Ottawa Senators and play for their ECHL and AHL affiliates, the Charlotte Checkers and Binghamton Senators.
