Regina, SK – Lasse Petersen made 19 saves to record a shutout in his Western Hockey League debut backstopping the Calgary Hitmen to a 3-0 win over the Regina Pats on Sunday afternoon at the Brandt Centre.

Travis Sanheim led the offense with a goal and an assist while Elliott Peterson and Pavel Karnaukhov rounded out the scoring.  Jake Bean set up a pair of goals with Dawson Martin adding an assist for his first career WHL point.

The Hitmen used a strong start jumping out to a 2-0 lead less than six minutes into the opening period and carried the play most of the game, outshooting Regina 32-19.

Calgary’s penalty killers also played a key role as Regina went 0-8 on the powerplay.

With the victory, the Hitmen improve to 4-1 moving into a tie with Red Deer for first place in the Central Division.  Regina, shutout for their second straight game at home, drops to 1-3.

The attendance was 3305.  The Pats are off until Friday when they host Lorne Molleken’s Vancouver Giants at 7 pm on 620 CKRM.

Another bad weekend for Regina sports with the exception of the Thunder! The team which gets the least exposure is the best team we've got it would seem.

As long as the Pats go with an undersized midget team, this result will repeat itself many times this season. No defence and a small forward group spells loses. 7 of our forwards under 6'…couldn't handle Calgary's size.

…a 4pm start..really…. couldn't be worse…small crowd as some have Sunday suppers and this wrecks it. bad idea… Either 2pm or 7pm start make far more sense. Keep evening start times all the same regardless of day. Sunday could be 7pm as well. Give people time to have supper before going to game.

typical regina, it doesn't work for 3 of you so they should cater to what YOU need. 4 is a good time, in between NFL games and a nice wind down to the weekend. same shit different team with you guys. not really surprising.

Evening rider games are difficult for anyone driving any distance. 2 and 4 starts are much better. So the Pats go to 2 and 4 starts? Sorry pats no one is driving any distance to watch you. How is the rebuild going? Find any goal scorers?

Pats had tough puck luck this past weekend…didn't deserve to win against 2 teams in the Top 4 of CHL, but could easily had a couple of goals in each game. It's going to take some time; very young Team and certainly lots of mistakes BUT experience will make them better and we are looking for them to be THE Team in a couple of years. Still have to support them thru the good and bad…the hockey is fast and exciting.

Couple notes from the game. Maybe don't set up a Merch booth on the concourse, right in front of a lineup for food! (in front of Western Pizza) absolutely rediculous. The lineups for food are long enough, let alone trying to get through that lineup to walk around for something else. The lineups for the food concessions on the side can be strung a whole different way than having people lineup into the concourse again…just some serious bad planning, where is Cliff when you need him, he wouldn't have any of this. Promotions for Tshirts were announced, and everyone was… Read more »

Pat's are building for 2017-18. Right now they are a fast young team. They will get physically stronger and gain experience needed to be a top team over the next 2 years. It will be a treat to watch this team for the next 2 years. Waiting for Marty Klein to improve the game day experience,no significant improvements so far.
Great Western replaces Molson's as a sponsor. The sky box has been empty every game so far. I guess they can't give away the slough water they call beer.
