SASKATOON, Sask. – The University of Regina Rams fell to 0-3 on the season after suffering a 33-18 loss to Saskatchewan on Friday night at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon on Support Our Troops Night.
The Rams opened the scoring with a nine-play, 95-yard drive capped by a short Atlee Simon two-yard touchdown run nine minutes into the first quarter, but Saskatchewan (1-2) scored the next 19 points to take the lead for good.
Andrew Fabian’s short field goal brought the Rams to within 19-10 at halftime, but that was as close as they would come. Touchdowns by Shane Buchanan and Mitch Hillis made it a three-score game and though Mitchell Picton had a 37-yard catch-and-run for a late touchdown, that would be the last scoring play of the night.
Noah Picton completed 28 of his 43 passes for 422 yards, with four of his receivers ending up with six catches apiece – including Riley Wilson, who led all players with a career-high 141 receiving yards. Richard Sindani, Mitchell Picton, and Mitch Thompson also had six catches. The Rams had 472 offensive yards to Saskatchewan’s 469, marking the third time in as many games this season that they’ve outgained their opponents but lost.
Grey McKen recorded the Rams’ first sack of the season – and the first of his career – while Zack McEachern forced a turnover late in the game after stripping Buchanan of the ball.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier for the Rams, who will prepare to host the top-ranked team in the nation next Saturday afternoon as Calgary pays a visit to Mosaic Stadium. The Dinos are coming off an 80-18 stomping of the Alberta Golden Bears.

Gibson has now experienced the "homer" officiating that drove Frank nuts…. see that nothing has changed …. You would think the striped jersey would instill a sense of pride and professionalism and an official would want to do their very best to protect the integrity of the game..????????. Guess not……
Unbelievable, two homer calls that totally changed the game. CIS should be embarrassed. Frank was quoted as saying that in Saskatoon you had to be up by at least 14 to have a chance of winning the game because the officials would take the game over. After last night, that quote was extremely accurate.
Not a fan of either team, but I see Regina is keeping of the long tradition of whining!
The commentators on Shaw were at a loss for words as they could not believe the calls on those two turnover plays. Embarrassing for CIS football.
No sir, it was not the refs who are creating the woes for the Rams, it is a lack of experience and talent on defense. A bit like the Riders.

CFL must realize they have a problem on their hands as they recruit prospect Officials from the College and Junior ranks….. Judging by the poor quality of officiating I have seen at both levels so far this year, it is safe to say there are currently not any qualified prospects to recruit. Some of these officials have a difficult time keeping up to the pace / speed of the college and junior games, let alone the CFL.
CFL should be concerned as it is their program which will suffer the most.

I could care less about who won this game…. There has to be an expectation of fairness and competence and the concern is the poor quality of officiating at the CIS and Junior levels….. CFL recruit from these programs … CFL have a problem on their hands….. For the most part, the officials associations are pretty much a select society, and the most incompetent officials ( which are generally the ones who have been around the longest) make up the Executive of the Association. Officiating was poor. Rams unable to take advantage when they had the opportunity. Huskies took advantage of all opportunities including the officiating. Gibson blowing up on the sidelines gave his players an excuse to lose, they are not professionals he needs to think about his actions. Note that when Towriss wanted to work the refs he had an assistant do it while he was as far away as possible. Welcome to university football Gibson. No sense in crying over spilled milk but Saskatchewan would be a better province if:
1. The provincial capital was placed in PA as considered
2. Saskatoon retained its amateur football team for it to evolve into a pro franchaise
3. Tories never formed govt.
4. Louis Riel was allowed his settlement along the banks of the south Sask River
5. Saskatoon awarded the U of S based on reason rather than default ( at least it turned out pretty good)
The province of great promise is now the one of lost opportunity. It's too late to go back and change.
That's the way it is up there, deal with it, dig deep, shut up and play.
I cannot believe the Saskatchewan Roughriders do not do a true Support our Troops football game. Friday night in Saskatoon the Rams and Huskies played, close to 10K people in attendance, military soldiers being honored left, right and center, fly by by 15 Wing Moose Jaw and the Huskies wore miltary style uniforms. The crowd went nuts every time the soldiers were mentioned and at the game the soldiers were treated like rock stars, and so they should!
