ICE DROP PATS 6-2

REGINA – The Regina Pats gave up four third period goals on Wednesday night in a 6-2 loss to the Winnipeg ICE at the Brandt Centre.

In the first, the ICE took a 1-0 lead at 7:51 on a goal from Owen Pederson. Regina drew even with six minutes left in the frame when Jake Johnson one-timed a shot from the right point, scoring his second of the season and it was 1-1 after one. In the second, the Pats took their first lead of the night at 17:18 when Nikita Sedov picked up his fifth of the season to make it 2-1. The ICE tied it up with five seconds left in the period on a goal from Isaac Johnson and it was 2-2 after 40 minutes. In the third, Winnipeg took the lead at 1:27 thanks to Carson Lambos. Cole Muir extended the lead to 4-2 at 5:08 and then on the powerplay Michal Teply made it 5-2 for the ICE at 13:22. Michael Milne rounded out the scoring for Winnipeg after that and the Pats fell 6-2.

The Pats were outshot 37-20, the powerplay went oh for three, the penalty kill two for three, while Donovan Buskey made 31 saves.

The Pats (21-34-6-2) are back in action on Friday night when they visit the Brandon Wheat Kings at 6:30 Regina time on 620 CKRM.

Whats wrong with this picture? A first year [Winnipeg Ice] WHL hockey club whips the worlds oldest Junior Hockey franchise [Regina Pats] 6 – 2. You would think by now the Regina Pat’s would have the recipe for consistent winning success on and off the ice, sadly that’s not the case here.

Nero fiddled while Rome burned! Ownership appears to be fiddling. Really only one good season in the past six. Anyone who doesn’t think there needs to be a big shift in the hockey operations has been drinking too much kool-aid. The list of returning talent on the seasons renewal letter is not encouraging at all. Kelowna has replaced their coach twice since they got the Memorial Cup Host. Winnipeg Ice were the Kootenay Ice. Winnipeg is not a first year team!!!

This ICE team is sensational and they’re just getting started. Just wait until scoring ace Connor McClennon gets back into the lineup.
