ICE MELT PATS 8-3

REGINA – The lone game Tuesday in the Regina Hub Centre was a strange one. The Regina Pats outshot Winnipeg 35-33 but were trounced 8-3 by the ICE, dropping their record to 1-3-2 on the abbreviated season.

All that was left in the third period was to see if Exceptional Player Connor Bedard would extend his season-opening point streak to six games. In the end, just like Western Pizza, Bedard delivered.

The ICE struck just 1:24 into the game when defenceman Mike Ladyman beat Regina goalie Roddy Ross, and the Pats would play catch-up the rest of the way. Winnipeg led 2-1 and 5-1 by periods. The Pats’ Carter Massier struck at the 15:00 mark of the opening frame.

Ross was lifted after 40 minutes, allowing five goals on 24 shots. Rookie back-up Matthew Kieper stopped six of nine pucks in the final frame.

Trailing 7-2 in the third, Bedard set up Pats captain Logan Nijhoff at the 12:56 mark for his 2nd goal of the campaign and thus extended his point streak to six games (5-5-10). Carter Chorney had the other Pats goal in a losing cause.

Regina went 0/4 on the powerplay and 2/5 killing penalties.

The Pats return to action Thursday at 4:00 pm against the Prince Albert Raiders at 4:00 pm on AccessNow TV and 620 CKRM. The ICE will face the Brandon Wheat Kings Thursday at 8:00 pm.

4 years removed from the 2017 fire sale. The team was woefully inadequate since and are agin this year. It can be argued who is responsible for failing to rebuild in three or four years, but some people have to be held accountable. Based on what I’ve seen out there it will be another 3 years at the least before they are competitive. By that time Bedard will be gone. It’s uncanny how year after year a team like Everett is always near elite and graduate top players each season?? Being able to play defence would be a great start.

Nothing wrong with my memory…at least I don’t think so! I could be wrong but if I’m mot mistaken I think they were in the WHL final in 17-18..Plus finishing 1st or 2nd in the tough US Division for the last 6 years in row with over 40 wins each year along the way. Not too bad for a group that only came into the league in 2003-04 They didn’t host the Memorial Cup which is true. However again if memory serves me well, I don’t think CHL teams that are USA based can host the Memorial Cup. I believe… Read more »
