Jim Mullin really loves Canadian football. The President of Football Canada and host of Krown Gridiron Nation on TSN, professed his love for the game on Friday’s The Rod Pedersen Show. Mullin argues there is nothing like Canadian football, especially the 12-man game.

“You know the thing that gets me right here? (points to heart). It’s the 12-man game, it’s 110, it’s the 20-yard endzones, it’s the 65-yard wide,” Mullin said to show host Darren Dupont. “And when it’s played at the highest and most competitive level, I don’t think there’s another sport out there that out does it in terms of the concept of teamwork, and what it presents entertainment-wise.”

Mullin also believes the future for Canadian football is really bright, in particular at the amateur level. “I think one of the encouraging signs though, is at the USports level, and at the conference level. Seeing that Canada West is committed to a six-game season, knowing that USports is directing their efforts toward a Vanier Cup (…) and I know the CJFL (Canadian Junior Football League) is also focused on getting back to the field, there’s an effort there. We are going to see football at some point, I just can’t tell you when.”

Dupont and co-host John Lynch – a Hall of Fame Saskatchewan Roughriders broadcaster – also discussed their own love for Canada’s game, both stating they loved how open the game was compared to the American version and both are chomping at the bit waiting for Canadian football to return in some capacity, but if Mullin is correct, fans will see Canadian football at some point this year, it’s just a matter of when, a welcome sign for a sport that hasn’t seen action since the fall of 2019.

Ryan Ballantyne of 3DOWNNATION has a very good proposal for 2021 CFL play. All teams will move to the Province of Alberta and play out Calgary, Edmonton. Proper Covid19 protocols will be Implemented. It makes perfect sense for the CFL to proceed this way or else their league is one and done.
