JLB ELECTRIC GAME RECAP: HOW SWEEP IT IS!

It’s no April Fool’s joke.  The Regina Pats are off to Round 2 of the WHL Playoffs for the first time since 2007.

Adam Brooks scored twice and Daniel Wapple stopped all 24 shots he faced as the Pats shutout the Broncos in Swift Current 4-0 Wednesday to take the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal in the minimum of four games.

After a scoreless opening period, the Pats struck for three goals in 4:01 midway through the second period providing all the offense they’d need.  Adam Brooks scored the opening pair with the first being shorthanded while teammate Patrick D’Amico later put the Pats up 3-0 going to the third.

Regina defenseman Connor Hobbs put the game away with a powerplay goal at 13:06 of the third before a crowd of 2523 fans.

Pats coach John Paddock was somewhat surprised at the four game rout.

“By sweeping it, yes,” Paddock admitted to Shaw TV after the game.  “I thought when we had home ice that we could win the series.  That was really big to get home ice but certainly I don’t think you ever expect a sweep.”

The Cinderella season for the Pats continues as they head into the Conference Semifinals.  Paddock said this truly is a special team.

“They’ve been so receptive since last August with the rookie camp right through,” Paddock offered.  “I keep saying it but the leadership that we moved on (at the trade deadline) helped set a big tone for the Padakins, the D’Amicos, Williamses, and Christoffer of course carried it on.  They’re teaching these young guys so much for down the road, no matter how far we go.  It’s been really, really special.  I’m very proud of them.”

Pats captain Braden Christoffer said winning the series was a huge accomplishment.

“It’s fantastic.  The Pats haven’t won a series in a long time so it’s a really good feeling,” Christoffer told Shaw TV.  He was further asked what’s going right for the Queen City Kids.  “There’s a lot of things I could tell you.  It’s a long list.  We just did everything that we do right and we did it night in and night out.”

Adam Brooks – who was named the #1 star in Game 4 – was asked what the turning point was Wednesday evening.

“I just think our first goal,” Brooks figured.  “Whenever a team’s down 3-0 in a series, they’re kind of waiting for something bad to happen.  We kind of took it to them the whole night and once I got that first one, I think it was a bit of a back-breaker.  I was looking to get pucks on net all night and he (Broncos goalie Landow Bow) was looking a little shaky at the start.  It was nice to get those.”

The Pats will face Brandon in Round 2 of the playoffs.  The Wheat Kings clinched their first round series in five games following a 3-2 double overtime win at Edmonton Wednesday night.

The Conference Semifinal is expected to open with the Pats on the road for Game 1 on Friday, April 10.

Will Daddy's boy be on the Cage tomorrow to talk about why he was such a failure and how QCSE has turned the team around in one year?

How refreshing!

We may not beat Brandon, but the seeds have been sowed for next year and beyond.

Thank you QCSE. Suck it Daddy's boy!

WOW, truly unbelievable how the Pats have shocked us by sweeping Broncos. I'm speechless and impressed. Brandon watch out here come the PATS! I am so confident of the Pats winning against Brandon. Broncos is unfortunately out of the playoffs for a number of years. Anyone want to bet against Paddock?? That's what I thought, NOTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

I must say I am eating crow right now as actually picked Broncos in 6…I love the Pats and have supported them for years but just thought the horses had our number this year. Not going to make the same mistake for the next series :)). So much respect for the Team, Coaches and Ownership Group…they all must be on such a high tonight…I know I am. Bring on the Wheaties.

And I Quote!!! Suck it Daddys Boy! Anon 1. You are a piece of SH@T. You do realize that pretty much the entire Pats team that played tonight were players were acquired under Daddy's boys watch. The Parkers did this city a favour when they bought the Pats. Why do you have to Be an A$$ hole and get personal. I am sure you will find a reason to hate this ownership group also. If you havnt already. Drove to Swift tonight. A young skilled team that will be hard to play against for the forseable future. Very nice indeed.

Your respect for the Parker family is disgusting. The Parkers were the worst thing to happen to Regina sports ever. They ran the team into the ground and pour concrete over top or them… the new owners have finally busted through that concrete and the team is finally respectable again. No thanks to your buddies the Parkers!

What ever happened to Lee Anne? Did she recover from the big trades and return to the fan fold, or is she still peed off? We need her cheering for the lads in round 2.

I would like to thank QCSE for buying the Pats and once again giving us optimism. ALL Pats fans should realize how this was badly run both on the ice and off the ice over the past number of years under the regime of "Daddy's Boy". The Eberle trade set this team back eons and you know had "Daddy's Boy" still been here, so would Klimchuk and the others. QCSE came in with a plan and while he was late in getting here, Paddock has helped change the culture. Very similar to Austin and Tillman arriving and how the fortunes… Read more »

Good on the Pats! Hope for the best against Brandon.

I for one never buy into the next year things … all it takes is one bad play to turn a series and everything you built for is gone. They are on the right path but no guarantees.

Hey Anon protecting Parkers, you don't know what you are talking about. They knew nothing about hockey. Adam Brooks doesn't play because he's a 4th line centre according to Parkers, Austin Wagner doesn't play because he's not good enough. The Parkers set this franchise back many years. Look what happens when you trade for future. To bad they didn't get it after 19 years, quite sad actually. New Pats, new day in Pats land, Go Pats Go.

Speaking of Chad Lang, whatever happened to him? Is he still with the Pats in some capacity?

The Parker's saved this franchise from moving when they bought them and they did good things. The problem is Russ should have fired Brent along time ago. The Parker's needed to sell the pats, but let's not forget they did save the pats.

Good point above. I think "The Parkers" get lumped together and labelled poorly despite the fact the owners did some good things. It was the GM that failed miserably to produce any semblance of an on ice product.

Yeah, yeah … the GM was a product of the owners, they still made the team relevant and shouldn't ignore they made the Mem Cup happen, WHL All-Star game, and other upgrades to team.
