JONES DISCUSSES QBS ON TUESDAY

The Saskatchewan Roughriders held Day 2 of their work week on Tuesday at Mosaic Stadium. The club is preparing for Friday’s season-opener against the Toronto Argonauts in Regina (7:00 pm, TSN, ESPN2, 620 CKRM Radio Network).

After the workout, Jones addressed his quarterback situation for Week 1. On Monday, Jones said he doesn’t plan to name his starting pivot until later in the week.

“I’ve known for two weeks how we’re going to play,” Jones revealed. “But I ain’t telling y’all till we get ready to play. Why would I give something like that up to our opponent, where they know exactly what we’re going to do? It doesn’t make good sense, right?

“I know how we’re gonna play, our quarterbacks know how we’re gonna play, and you’ll find out when we play the game exactly how they’ll play.”

Jones was asked if he will name the starter on Thursday when the club declares its roster for Friday’s game.

“Why do we have to?” Jones questioned. “I don’t understand why that’s such big deal. I told them this morning, I talked to the QBs, and it’s not that big a deal to me. I treat them just like I do anybody else. They know exactly how we’re gonna play and they know what we have to do to win football games. They’ve both been playing for a long time so that’s just the way we’re going to do it.

“You don’t know our defensive rotation either. So, I’m not going to let you know that either.”

Meanwhile receiver Duron Carter says he was satisfied with his ranking in TSN’s CFL Top 50 players which was released Tuesday morning. Carter was the top-ranked Roughrider at #8 followed by Willie Jefferson (10), Charleston Hughes (13), Ed Gainey (15), Naaman Roosevelt (25), Jerome Messam (29) and Brendon Labatte (33). Although Carter says he won’t be satisfied until the Top 5 are comprised of all Roughriders.

As for Friday’s game, Carter says they’ve been looking forward to Week 1 for quite some time.

“Definitely,” said the flamboyant receiver. “Everybody’s ready to kick it up a notch. This is my 5th, 6th year of being a professional. You kind of go through the motions in camp and preseason but when it comes to the first game, you have to be ready to play.”

Wednesday’s Day 3 workout will be closed to the public and media.
