JEREMY KELLEY TO RETIRED LIST

International receiver Jeremy Kelley has informed the Saskatchewan Roughriders that he will be unable to participate in 2016 training camp due to a medical situation.

“I am disappointed to have had made this decision, especially only weeks before training camp,” stated Jeremy Kelley. “I am concerned about my health, due to a non-football related medical situation that has surfaced and I believe it is in my best interest to discontinue playing at this time.”

Kelley continued, “I appreciate the opportunity Craig Reynolds, Coach Jones and the entire organization have given me, and sincerely wish them nothing but success in the 2016 season.”
Chris Jones, Vice-President of Football Operations, General Manager and Head Coach, said: “It is always difficult to lose a player with the potential that Jeremy Kelley has. He is a young man with lots of opportunities ahead of him and what is most important is his health.”
As a result, the Riders have placed Kelley on the retired list.

I hope his health gets better. If in fact it is his health. Some of these international receivers that have signed on NFL teams before having to take a nose dive to the CFL. Often get cold feet knowing that they will be playing for less money than the ball boy gets paid on their last NFL team. While others like Jerrell Freeman use it as another chance to get back to the NFL. I guess it's all in how you perceive the opportunity. Too bad as this fellow was 6'6". Then again the last really tall receiver we had… Read more »

Ok last straw.

I used to be a supporter of the new regime, but now it has become a laughing stock.

Do they not talk to these players or do medical exams?

Reynolds, Jones and Murphy have turned this into a pathetic circus.

Offence will be lucky to score 10 points a game.

I can't wait to see what a failure the draft is going to be.

The fool from Lower Canada needs to give his head a shake. If he took the time to read the article he would note that "a non-football related medical condition has surfaced". I suspect that the Lower Canada referred to is Winnipeg and I am here to tell you that humans do not yet know how to predict the future.

"I am concerned about my health, due to a non-football related medical situation that has surfaced…"

Someone read the release to those who can't before letting them comment.

Thoughts are with Mr. Kelley.

I read the release thank you.

While I can sympathize with Mr. Kelley's health concerns, are you seriously trying to tell me that a career ending health problem couldn't have been detected with a medical exam?

Four players retire in quick succession, and everything is A ok?

It's just too much coincidence for me. Something is wrong in the organization.

Yeah, all these guys checked the roster depth that Jones & Murphy have put together and quickly figured out they had no chance of making this team so why bother with going through the tough sledding of training camp.

Geeze Guy, it is Guy right, as in LaFleur or Carbonneau, people in all walks of life retire all the time for all sorts of reasons. If his health issues improve maybe he will unretired. Or not. Everyone is replaceable Guy.

I hope that whatever medical problem he has is not too serious. But, your health always comes first. Your football career does not last forever. It has been a very strange off-season for the Riders this year. So far, not a huge fan of Jones or Murphy. At least what we know right now is that whatever happens with this team, they will be the ones to credit or blame. There is pretty much nothing left from last season. It's all on them now. Can't wait to see how this all plays out. GO RIDERS!

Who are the four players?

I said it before and I'll say it again – players do not want to play for Jones and Murphy. They do not trust them.

This has never happened before with so many out of the blue retirements any where in the CFL

Its not a coincidence.

Sorry Guy, but there is nothing wrong with the organization any more. This is no longer 2015. There may be more wrong with your understanding of the ongoing efforts by a new management to take a horrible team out of the basement and back to the top again. There is a large and solid group of players set to compete in training camp. Best for now if you stick to worrying about your own team in lower Canada.

Dude from lower Canada,

Reeeeeellllllaaaaxxxxxx.

I go through a fairly serious medical every year for my pilot liscense. In fact, every pilot at the front of your next Air Canada/Sunwing/WestJet/Air Transat etc flight has been through a fairly serious medical in the last 12 months.

And yet, you know what still happens, pilots get cancer, heart attacks, high blood pressure, strokes.

It's called life.

All the best to Mr. Kelly.

Life is more important then football. You'll figure it out one day, down in lower Canada.

Yep, something did happen to this team! I am betting the new head coach put down his foot and said if you want to play for me in SK that you show up, ready to work, and give 110% or don't showing up at all!! And, ya know what? I like it!! I like it a lot!!

Lower Canada,

On the surface this seems fishy. However when you realize the dramatic roster turnover from a 3-15 season is underway, these things unfortunately happen. There are A LOT of players in the system right now.

Bottom line is let's PLEASE let this regime play a few games before we run them out of town.

The same haters of the new regime seemed fine with a 3-15 team. Makes no sense.

Tranny from middle Canada.
