Don’t be fooled – RodPedersen.com was the first to report the CFL’s Edmonton Elks have hired Mark Kilam as their new head coach, with an announcement expected on Monday.

Multiple sources indicated on Saturday afternoon that Kilam – who’d been with the Calgary Stampeders since 2005 – has agreed to join the Elks under “new” General Manager Ed Hervey. Kilam was part of a purge from the Stampeders last month under Head Coach & GM Dave Dickenson. However it didn’t take long for him to land on his feet.

The move is being applauded by Edmonton football fans and former Stampeders players alike. A lifelong Albertan, Kilam seems like an ideal fit for the role.

Why did Hervey opt for a first-time Head Coach in Kilam rather than go with Rick Campbell, whom Hervey originally hired with the B.C. Lions back in 2020?

Perhaps Ed will tell us on Monday.

It’s good to see the CFL hiring more Canadians for head coaching positions . The “used” American coaching carousel is ridiculous. No one knows or understands our game better than our own coaches. This past season alone I have seen too many coaches looking dazed and confused on the sidelines. Kiliam will make an excellent choice much like Cory Mace. Good job “ESKIMOS”.
