LEGENDARY RAIDERS ANNOUNCER TO BE HONOURED FRIDAY
PRINCE ALBERT – We are with very heavy hearts to announce that Jim Bristowe, beloved husband and father, slipped away peacefully from us to be with the Lord. He was 72 years young. He is survived by his loving wife Michelena (Solar), his daughter Janine Bristowe Van de Sype, her husband Kurt along with Jim’s adoring grandsons Kale and Jayk Van de Sype of Kelowna, BC, his son Allan Bristowe and his wife Tammy (Marleau) along with Jim’s adoring granddaughters Isabella and Lexi of Prince George, BC. Jim is also survived by his 5 sisters, Beverly (Babs) McBeth and family of Regina, Elizabeth (Betty) Olsen and family of Calgary, Georgina (Gary) Moffat and family of Lethbridge, Claire (Richard) Rottare and family of Lake Country, Susan (Vic) Boryski and family of Saskatoon, his Mother-in-Law Marie Solar and brother-in-law Alexander Solar, both of Alvena. Plus we cannot forget his loyal and loving furry companions Jojo and Mini who miss him like crazy. He was predeceased by his parents George and Edith Bristowe, his father-in-law William Solar, his brother-in-laws Marvin Olsen, Fred McBeth and James Solar.
Jim will be sorely missed as he was well known and loved by so many. He has definitely left a lasting legacy for us all. In addition to the closeness he shared with his family, he was highly involved in his community. There is not a corner in the city of Prince Albert you can turn to without Jim’s fingerprint being found. His list of involvement includes decades of service with the Prince Albert Raiders (from billeting to officiating; being the public address announcer for 27 years; sitting on the Board of Directors and Booster Clubs; was a key player in the organizing and facilitating of various campaigns to upgrade and expand the old Communiplex into the Art Hauser Centre of today. Volunteered 1000’s of hours…..He was a member of multiple committees and clubs such as the Kinsmen Club, the Lung Association, the Cancer Society, Red Cross (even donating his own blood for years), Hospital board, the Rawlinson Art Center………help to organize and bring multiple sporting events to the city of PA and province of Saskatchewan like the Canadian Midget Boys Softball championships, Sask Summer games, Purolator Cup hockey championship, served the citizens of Prince Albert as an alderman on City council for 4-5 terms through the 1980’s and 1990’s. Jim’s work career was mostly in the insurance industry where he lead the team in Prince Albert at London Life for over 30 years. He also worked for a short time in the funeral business back in the early 1970’s. He received countless awards which included Kinsmen Sportsman of the year in 1988, 1989 Citizen of the Year in Prince Albert and being inducted into the PA Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 as well as recognized on the Raiders Wall of Honor as a Builder in 2013.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday July 20th in the Ches Leach Lounge Located at the Art Hauser Centre 690 (B) – 32nd Street East starting at 1:30pm.
