LIONS RELEASE BIGHILL TO PURSUE NFL

SURREY, B.C. – The B.C. Lions announced Friday they have released star linebacker Adam Bighill so that he can pursue NFL opportunities.

The CFL team says the move is part of a contractual agreement with Bighill, and that if he is not signed to a deal south of the border by Jan. 27 he will be back with to B.C. next season.

“I am grateful for the club’s understanding that as a professional football player, father and husband, I want to maximize my career potential,” Bighill said in a statement released by the Lions. “I want to make it very clear to our incredible fans that I love being a B.C. Lion and if nothing comes to fruition in the NFL, I will be ecstatic to return to the club.”

Bighill finished third in the CFL in 2016 with 108 defensive tackles to go along with five sacks and one interception.

“We have an agreement in place with Adam which allows him to seek out potential NFL opportunities between now and January 27, 2017,” said Lions Head Coach & GM Wally Buono.  “If he is not signed by an NFL team during this period, he has agreed to return to the Lions.

The 28-year-old from Montesano, Wash., was also named a CFL all-star for the fourth time, and a West Division all-star for the fifth straight season.

That's how all contracts should be – a win/win on both sides. Not like one side trying to screw the other at the first opportunity to arrive – eg. Mo Price and others who took bonus money upfront and "retired". Hope Jones/Murphy have learned from this.

I am no Jones fan but Bighill has had a good relation with the Lions and Price had zero with the riders. Price even admitted he was kind of returning the favor by leaving like that due to Jones past of leaving other teams early from his contract which Price was part of one of them(Calgary)…the calgary team took pics with his motor bike and then did antics towards him of being on the bike after making big plays. Jones has a lot to learn with his positions and 3 years isn't going to do it in my eyes.
