MADANI: DRESSLER TO SIGN WITH CHIEFS
REGINA (CP) – The Grey Cup-champion Saskatchewan Roughriders released all-star slotback Weston Dressler on Thursday.
The move wasn’t a surprise. Dressler, 28, was scheduled to become a free agent Feb. 15 and was exploring his NFL options.
This allows Dressler, who earlier this month worked out for the Kansas City Chiefs, to sign an NFL deal immediately.
The five-foot-eight, 179-pound native of Bismarck, N.D., has spent the past six seasons in Regina, having registered 442 catches for 6,531 yards and 43 TDs. He has surpassed the 1,000-yard receiving plateau five times in his career, including the last four years.
Dressler had five catches for a game-high 81 yards and a touchdown in Saskatchewan’s 45-23 Grey Cup victory over Hamilton.
Dressler is a two-time CFL all-star and was the league’s top rookie in ’08.
He revealed during a news conference in Regina Thursday that he’s requested jersey #13 with his new team in honour of the Rider Nation.

If there is one person who deserves a shot its dressler…the guy has been the best player on the team since he got here…he gives it 100% every down…he has been everuthing for the roughriders..he is one of those rare breeds that come along once in a blue moon….im happy for him…and hope for all the best for him. Thank you weston…it has been a treat watching you.
As Dressler goes, so do the Roughriders go !
Each and every time Weston was the game producing go to guy on behalf of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the end result was always a high percentage win, guaranteed. His talent and who Is as a Individual speaks volumes to his respected character and Is a Immense loss to the Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club on field product. Best of luck/wishing you the best In your future endeavors Mr Weston Dressler, Thank you,
Much respect,
EGA
Wow, the tiger cat fan actually has a compliment for a Rider. Maybe you're not as dumb as Obama looks.
Weston Dressler not a Rider.
He always will be a Rider. Hence the #13 he will be wearing for his new NFL team in honor of his fans here.
Anonymous,
In response to your assuming (the tiger cat fan) disrespectful posted snippet. Let's set you straight courtesy, RODPEDERSEN.COM CANADA'S #1 SPORTS BLOG and let this post show,

In response to your recent rant regarding what team you cheer for, good luck without AC. You still write like the ti-cat fan, & if you find that disturbing take it up with him. For that matter you also sound like a particular stumps fan. I hope that doesn't stress you out too much having that many personalities.
No rant, just a blog post. Thanks for the good luck without AC, he made a personal choice to move on, that's respected, no stress.
Go Alouettes

I've never really had an NFL team but I'll sure be routing for Kansas City and number 13 now. What a classy guy.
Obama is ripped just ask him he'll tell you.
I have never watched NFL football but as a lifetime Rider fan I am going be keeping an eye on the Kansas City Chief's new # 13!!! Good luck Weston !!!
Why would Madani project that? Why not wait for the official announcement from the team or let Dressler let the cat out. If Madani's wrong do you suppose there will be a retraction? There never has been and he's been wrong lots.

Weston has always epitomized what a Rider should be – hard-working, fiercely competitive and letting his play on the field do the talking. Best of luck to him.
Alex Smith has some Durant-like qualities. Hopefully the two of them can find some good mojo. It's a good time to be playing for the Chiefs. A bit of a mirage season this year, but they're certainly better than they were and that trend should continue as they develop more consistency in their play.
Good luck Dressler
Well deserved opportunity for Dressler, he accomplished it all in CFL. No brainer he is going to KC,
there is no player No. 13 on Chief's roster.
Best of luck enjoyed watching you up here.
Even though he had a tryout with KC, I think he's signing with Chicago. He's mentioned that the team he's signing with wants to keep it hush hush. Trestman knows what he can do. Watched him play for 5 years.
While we all wish Weston the best as he pursues his NFL dream, also if there is anyone on the Riders that deserves this shot it is him. However, let us take a step back into reality, we like comparing Weston to Wes Welker, but Wes Welker is a definite minority in the NFL. As several former players who have played in both the CFL and the NFL can atest, the NFL is much more structured, more systematic and more political than the CFL. For Weston to succeed he will need to overcome these differences plus be able succeed on… Read more »
