MADANI: HUFNAGEL – OUT OF THE RUNNING!

Sportsnet’s Arash Madani reported Sunday morning that Stampeders boss John Hufnagel has officially told the Saskatchewan Roughriders he is remaining in Calgary and will not be pursuing the Saskatchewan GM/Head Coaching position.

Madani further went on to handicap the situation with the following favourites: 1) Jeremy O’Day 1A) Chris Jones, 2) Brock Sunderland, 2A) John Murphy.

Arash also Tweeted that O’Day has started interviewing head coaching candidates, although he remains the club’s interim GM.  Meanwhile Ottawa RedBlacks Assistant GM Brock Sunderland has had his first official interview with Roughriders President Craig Reynolds.

That's too bad, Hufnagel really was the answer. It's no surprise though, Why would he want to leave the well oiled machine he built to face what Taman left?

,,,my-my .. how does that work where an "INTERIM GM" interviews candidates for the new, yet to be hired GM? Can we just say that O'Day has the job and just get over it. It's safe to say the "process" that was to be steeped with integrity and morality was just a sham. I really feel for Murphy and Sunderland who it appears are being strung along with a promise of a fair shot at the job they so want. Everybody knows that was never going to happen. If Chris Jones wanted to take on dual roles that would be… Read more »

The Riders have to bring fresh blood in. Go fix this mess. After a 3-15 season, things have to change. The product on the field, obviously, but it starts with who is running the show. Jeremey is responsible for last year too and from what I understand was quite involved in decisions that lead to the debacle. Bring someone in who has no previous ties to the organization, no loyalty and relationships to players and let him develop his NEW plan with NEW ideas with NEW personnel and out with the OLD regime. That's how to fix the mess and… Read more »

Hey, my-my … that is the way the process works! A GM better have a coach ready to hire or a couple candidates in the hopper when he is being hired to increase his worth. If Sunderland or Murphy sat down and got asked who would be your coach and they said "I don't know" how could they be taken seriously?

Good on O'Day for having forethought and preparing to move forward! Happy to have a guy that is ahead of the game for once.

I don't remember anyone saying that O'Day would be fired if he didn't get the GM job. I believe he just
doing his job.

Weston Dressler, Jeff KNox, Rob Bagg, and Brendon Labatte are also all responsible for the 3-15 season so let's start new there as well. Obviously none of them can get the job done.

Mr. Reynolds;

Telethons won't work in this century and that's where you are heading by letting O'Day conduct interviews.

What a sorry sham you are running.

Everything people ASSUME or GUESS that is wrong with O'Day as GM, simply assume are right about Murphy or Sunderland.

Could you imagine if the fans had a say? Man-o-man!

Buy your ticket, buy your jersey, and zip it! You know nothing!

I have officially removed myself from Rider nation. I am too smart so I am simply just a Rider fan now.

Read and compare the biographies of O'Day, Murphy and Sunderland. The only area O'Day has any advantage is experience as a player. If you are going to shoot your mouth off about how smart you are, at least do the research so you know what you are talking about.

Remember folks, last August Reynolds was smart enough not to listen to Rod and Scruffy when he canned Taman and Chamblin. Hopefully he still doesn't listen to them.

Rider Nation only wants the process to be fair and the very best available candidate hired.
I think the point is why have interviews with suitable candidates if the new GM has already been chosen. By the way how does Madani know so much and is his information 100%?
Maybe J.O'Day is assuming he will be assistant GM under the still to be named new GM however if O'Day is the best candidate then he should be hired, no matter what us rabble say.

Re; Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club.

Is the organization president going through the motions of gm search for appearance sake? Does the administration think the fanbase that gullible or stupid? Not one penny out of my wallet if Jeremy O'Day announced as the gm. New total team direction wanted! Fan Green… pending!

Leave your name and tickets at the door then big shot!

Think the same thing was being said when Riders traded for DA. Same thing was said when after Dewdney incident.

You're still here though!

Have any of them been GM's before? So how are there bio's that much better?

You are the type of person that would hire someone by their paper resume and ignore an actual interview.

That's why you push the broom and people like me run the company.

You are obviously an idiot with a massive ego who needs things spelled out for them in excruciating detail.
I'm sure you have participated in some great interviews during your tenure as the assistant manager of the east Regina McDonald's, but the significantly greater executive experience, along with doing most every other job as part of a professional football team, make both Murphy and Sunderland far better candidates than O'Day.
Of course an idiot like you would ignore all other factors and former their decision totally based on a two to four hour interview, but that's what morons do.

Any GM worth his salt would have coaching candidates at the ready. Just like when Tillman was hired he already had Austin. Don't you think that helped his case?

He isn't interviewing for THE coach, he is interviewing for HIS coach.

Think people, think! SMH

This is the same guy that started the Hufnagel rumour out of nowhere now he is throwing other random stuff out and you mindless followers run around like your hair is on fire.

Here's the deal.

The Roughriders are a garbage organization so it will only get a retread or someone who has never been a GM before.

Hufnagel and Jones are keen to do the following – show some interest and then go back to their teams and ask for a raise, and extension. Simple, the Riders are the LA of the CFL – just use it as a chip to get a better deal where you are.

As a diehard Eskimos fan I just implore you to hire Jeremy O'Day. Please that's the right move…..

To the Rider fans that are whining about O'Day interviewing candidates, it's called "due diligence" or if I can simplify it for you "being prepared". Now go back to work and get me a Big Mack and a side of fries.

Ah, after several years of missing the playoffs it's good to see that Eskie arrogance back.
Oh yeah, time to leave the 1950s behind, join the modern times and change that Colonial name. The GreenGolds has a nice ring to it.
