MCDAVID SAVES THE OILERS

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) – Connor McDavid had a goal and two assists in his return from a nearly three-month absence and Edmonton beat Columbus to end a three-game skid.

Eric Gryba, Benoit Pouliot, Leon Draisaitl and Jordan Eberle also scored for the Oilers, and Cam Talbot made 36 saves.

McDavid, the first-overall pick in the 2015 NHL draft, was shelved by a broken clavicle on Nov. 3 after a promising start to his pro career. He missed 37 games.

McDavid scored a highlight-reel goal in the second period. He danced through two defenders and beat Joonas Korpisalo with a backhand-to-forehand deke for his sixth goal of the season and a 2-1 lead.

Matt Calvert scored for the Blue Jackets, and Columbus had a two-game winning streak come to an end.

When he's in the line-up, everyone plays better. That's a quality only super stars have. But what's it say about the mentality of the rest of the team when an 18-year-old kid can make you play better?

So Rod, do you still think the Oilers are "going to ruin" McDavid?

Ok…well…I guess I'll give you that one.

But I have to think your in the minority thinking of where this young kid will get to as a member of the Edmonton Oilers.

I think the coaching staff and specifically Todd McLellan will do an excellent job with #97 and the rest of the team.

Similar to the Riders, contracts have been an issue with some of the players, and as soon as these get squared away they will be allowed to focus on their current needs and grow the team to where they want to get to.

So Rod,

I normally agree with you but do you still thinks Ebs wants out of Edmonton.

Or does he want to play with perhaps the most talented kid the NHL has seen in the last couple decades.

This kid could take Ebs to a new level.
