MCMORRIS WINS CANADA’S FIRST MEDAL

KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia (CP) – Canada has its first medal of the Sochi Olympics.

Regina snowboarder Mark McMorris won bronze in men's slopestyle after earning 88.75 points in his second run.

McMorris, who was favoured for gold, has been competing with a broken rib.

American Sage Kotsenberg won gold with a first-run score of 93.50.

Norway's Staale Sandbech earned silver with a score of 91.75.

Way to go Mark! Great performance especially with the rib injury. Way to do Regina proud. Who'd have thought, an Olympic snowboarder from Regina, eh?!

42 years ago, Shaunavon, Saskatchewan's Jim Hunter received a bronze medal in the slalom event at the Saporro Olympics. Where there is a will there is a way.
