MEMORIAL CUP: LONDON 9 BRANDON 1
RED DEER, Alta. – Christian Dvorak scored three times and tacked on an assist as the London Knights hammered the Brandon Wheat Kings 9-1 on Monday at the 2016 Memorial Cup.
The victory guarantees the OHL champion Knights at least a spot in the tournament semifinal, while the WHL champion Wheat Kings have to beat the host Red Deer Rebels to keep their hopes alive.
Dvorak leads all skaters with five goals in two games after scoring a pair in London’s opener.
Cliff Pu, Aaron Berisha, Matthew Tkachuk, JJ Piccinich, Max Jones and Daniel Bernhardt also scored for the Knights (2-0). Mitch Marner tacked on four assists while Olli Juolevi chipped in with three.
Stelio Mattheos kept the Wheat Kings (0-2) from being shut out.
Tyler Parsons made 23 saves for the London while Jordan Papirny kicked out 19-of-26 shots in two periods of work for Brandon. Papirny was replaced at the beginning of the third by Logan Thompson.

That Mitch Marner fellow could be this Leaf's generation's Dave Keon!
Totally destroyed while embarrassing the Western Hockey League. Go home Wheat Kings.
Smiling like a butcher's dog eh Roddy?
London is hot now winning 15 in a row . Brandon just does not seem to be as strong as these other teams and will have to really be up for it to beat Red Deer tomorrow night.
2 great performances by BWK
Oh boy those mighty wheat kings proved yet again tonight that they have zero business being in the Memorial Cup!
Ouch!!!
Could be sweet revenge for Red Deer by knocking out the queens on Wed night.
In a sense I feel sad for the Wheat Kings because this is like Deja Vu all over again. The last time in the Memorial Cup a similar beating by Windsor. McCrimmon doesn't seem to be able to deliver the big ones. They have better talent than they are showing and probably as good as London's, then why aren't they delivering? At the trade deadline they needed to add better goaltending i.e. Bow. They needed a couple gritty fast forwards, and another puck moving d-man. McCrimmon didn't upgrade his team. KM doesn't like to give up the assets it takes… Read more »
KM not getting the pieces he needed is an accurate assessment. The Wheat Queen fans troll this blog yapping about how successful this team is. It appears they are content with consistently winning a few rounds in the playoffs before soiling the sheets, no MC rings this year
A couple of good comments on here but the Very Childish ones always get the Spotlight.
Poor KM maybe he outsmarted himself. ..Had Brandon got Bow rather than Seattle it would have made a huge difference. They should have obtained Braden Point yes at a high cost, but so worth it, Then one more good puck moving defenceman. These are pieces that cost dearly but how this tournament would have changed had those players been in it. Point would have backed London off and Bow would have made far better and more stops than Papirny. Bow was the reason Seattle was even in the WHL championship series. You only get so many kicks at the can… Read more »
The Pats are on the road to GREATNESS. Book it!
But the Books are cooked my friend!
The Brandon Wheat Kings are WHL champions and everything after that is gravy. To win a Memorial Cup you have to have everything go right and in 20 years look back on London's team and it'll be a who's who of NHL'ers.
So the Wheat Queens are settling for a WHL championship.
Wheat Kings have humiliated the WHL once again in the National spotlight.
Brandon…Very Winnipegish…
