MESSAM DEALT TO CALGARY

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have traded national running back Jerome Messam and the fifth round selection in the 2016 CFL Draft acquired earlier in the day to the Calgary Stampeders in exchange for national kicker Tyler Crapigna, a 3rd round selection in the 2016 CFL Draft, and the rights to a negotiation list player.
Crapigna (5’7″ – 166) was originally drafted by the Stampeders in the fifth round (40th overall) in the 2014 CFL Draft. The McMaster product graduated as the CIS all-time leader in field goals with 84.

Well one thing for sure, Paul won't have to be flying into Regina from Vancouver anymore. Good move to replace a 45 year old kicker with a 22 year old kicker.

Good work O'Day!

Hate to see Messam go, but you got to sell to get picks. Hopefully the draft year is a good one for Canadians.

Nice move by our GM – trade our MVP for a … kicker.
Lets just hope that running backs are still a dime a dozen. Or… perhaps we may see the resurrection of Kory Sheets in 2016.

Question: Do the Riders now have the YOUNGEST roster in the CFL?

So we traded a Canadian running back among the league's rushing leaders and Kevin Glenn, and all we got was a third rounder, a kicker, and a neg list player.

Unless the neg list player turns out to be young Tom Brady, this was a terrible trade deadline day.

Cloud – so as opposed to hanging on to them and losing them both for nothing to free agency?

Go back to cleaning bathrooms.

Dumbest fan base ever!

Rider fans = "We want changes. Play young guys. This team sucks"

GM trades two most and probably only valuable players = "What are they doing!"

Chick Dressier etc with their high end contracts need to go next. That's just the way it's got to be.

Didn't think qb and running back was the problem this year. Depleting qb depth and Canadian running back depth may be the problem next year. How's the defensive backfield? No need for improvement there. Wait a cdn defensive back can be selected in the turd round and they always become starters and all stars like ……

A cdn running back capable of leading the league in rushing for a no name kicker? Ahahahahaha. Ahahahahaha. Maybe the riders will select a kicker in the third round as well.

Jays trail after 5 and a half. Better come back or it's O'Day's fault.

So if you put both trades together …

The Riders traded Messam (a Canadian running back), Kevin Glenn, and an early 5th round pick (via Montreal) for a late 3rd round pick (Calgary), an unproven kicker, and a neg list player.

They only moved up maybe 10 or 11 places in the draft, not a full two rounds.

Can't wait to see their offense the next few games.

Upper management has given the orders to salary dump. Brendan Taman has left this franchise in a terrible financial predicament moving forward, something has to be done. Look for more player releases during off season.

So trading players for a poor return and losing them for nothing are the only options?

As a running back, Messam is second in the league in rushing yards and second for yards per carry with at least fifty carries. Plus he's a National player. To expect more than a mid-round pick, a young unproven kicker, and a neg list player who may never sign in exchange for him and a veteran quarterback is not unreasonable.

But go ahead, troll away.

Trading the leading rusher in the league who is also a CANADIAN? WTF?!! This is idiotic!!

The return on the Glenn trade was terrible, but at least the idea was defensible. How can anyone defend trading Messam? (Imagine if BC traded Andrew Harris for this kind of return?)

Well done, J O'Day. We traded off two guys near the end of their career who weren't going to be part of the team going forward. We need to rebuild Canadian depth.

Now who for M.O.P. or Outstanding Canadian? Certainly not Getzlaf and let him sit these ones out and then retire him.

If I could be of some help, we need some help on the offensive line, defensive line, and I guess now at running back and quarterback. Smith shows potential, but do we really have time to wait? Running back and kicker were two positions that we were relatively strong at this year. Kevin Glenn was only worth a 5th round draft choice (your kidding). I guess we can replace Messam with an unproven American (does this really make any sense).

JO you really haven't left a good impression (going forward – tired of this expression)

Well as long as Crapigna doesn’t get know as Ah Cra…
