MHOC: CANADA 1 USA 0

SOCHI, Russia (CP) – Team Canada will play for a second straight gold medal after a 1-0 semifinal win over the United States at the Sochi Olympics.

The Canadians, who beat the U.S. in the final four years ago in Vancouver, will face Sweden in Sunday’s gold-medal game.

Jamie Benn had the game’s lone goal and Carey Price made it stand, stopping 31 shots.

The Americans and Finns will play for the bronze medal on Saturday.

Canada beat the U.S. in overtime to win the 2010 Olympic men’s title in Vancouver.

The Canadian outshot their rivals 37-31.

Canada took a 1-0 advantage into the third and played air-tight defence to keep the Americans at bay. And when he needed to be, Price was solid in goal and was very effective in controlling his rebounds to negate extra scoring opportunities.

The Americans pulled goalie Jonathan Quick for the extra attack with under a minute remaining but couldn’t come up with the tying goal.

Benn scored the game’s only goal at 1:41 of the second when he deflected Jay Bouwmeester’s wrist shot from the point past Quick.

Sweden edged Finland 2-1 in an earlier semifinal contest.

Where is the genius who was on here a while ago predicting Canada was no better than a 4th, maybe 3rd place team? Likely the same one that said the Riders had 0% chance of winning the Grey Cup last season. Well the Canadians made the Armericans look pretty ordinary today so once again genius, you have proven yourself to be a true jackass!!!!! Next up, the Swedes and because I'm a Canadian I will say it's the Swedes that will have their hands full this game. Not the Canadians! Let's see what happens.

Just think, you’d be able to watch hockey like that every game if the NHL were only 10-16 teams

Poor Americans just can't get over the hump vs. Canada in either men's or women's Olympic hockey. Kinda like the Stamps in the playoffs LOL

To anonymous-At first glance I thought you were describing Pedersen, but all he did was repeatedly "bad mouth" Carey Price , the first star of the game.

So there is something wrong with pumping up the Canadians? You sound like the one that said they were no better than a 4th place team. Excuse me for being patriotic. I'm a Canadian! And I'm proud of our Olympic teams. If you choose not to support them it's your decision. But I would suggest everyone should have some faith in them. It helps.

It Can Only Happen In The USA…….

A bar in New York is taking the upcoming men’s Olympic hockey semifinal to a new patriotic level, warning customers it will not serve Canadian beer during game between Canada and the U.S.

The anticipated matchup will be watched in offices and bars across North America, and at the Amherst Pizza and Ale House in New York no Canadian beer will be served, calling it a “patriotic matter.”

Re: no Cdn beer served in NY bar, we'd do the same in Canada except no one would want an American beer anyway!

WE don't do the same in Canada because we don't sell American Beer in bars.
