MONDAY CFL NOTEBOOK

MONTREAL – Once again, the CFL has an ownership issue with the Montreal Alouettes to deal with.

Minority owner Gary Stern announced in an open letter to Alouettes fans that he’s stepping away from the club’s day-to-day operations as well as his position on the CFL board of governors.

Stern and his business partner and father-in-law, Sid Spiegel, purchased the Alouettes in January 2020 from the CFL but Spiegel never saw the franchise play.

The CFL cancelled the 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Spiegel died in July of that year.

Stern also served as the Alouettes’ CEO.

Montreal (4-6) is second in the East Division and hosts the Ottawa Redblacks (2-8) on Friday night.

REGINA – Canadian receiver Brayden Lenius is back with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The six-foot-five, 225-pound Lenius rejoined the Riders on Monday after recently being released by the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. Lenius, a Regina native, had 37 catches for 471 yards and four TDs last season with Saskatchewan.

Saskatchewan selected Lenius in the second round, No. 15 overall, of the 2019 CFL draft out of the University of Washington. Lenius had two receptions as a rookie with the Riders in 2019.
