Happy April Fool’s Day!

No pranks here today. Still our greatest all-time April Fools joke was in 2010 when I reported Roughriders great Scott Schultz was coming out of retirement to join the Calgary Stampeders.

That was so tough to top that I don’t really try anymore. Plus I realized way back then the seriousness of these pranks. A lot of people actually thought the story was true and we spent months afterwards explaining that it was a joke.

These days those types of pranks go on everyday and it’s no laughing matter, thanks to A.I.

The weekend report that Canadian wide receiver Chase Claypool could be done in the NFL after six volatile seasons – and is now talking to Saskatchewan and BC – was thought to be fake news as well. It could be, and we’ve been informed that the Lions own his CFL rights.

But the Riders have been known to approach other teams’ players in the past.

We’ll see where that one goes.

And the other weekend news – that unfortunately was no bad scoop – was that Wolseley, SK lost out in the Kraft Hockeyville contest to Elliot Lake, ON.

Like many of you, I was glued to my TV set during the first intermission of Hockey Night In Canada when the winner was announced.

And again, it wasn’t Saskatchewan. It never has been.

So the drought continues and the people of Wolseley will need to find another way to fundraise for their new arena ice plant. Hey, the silver lining is that at least the world now knows the dire case of the Wolseley arena!

Meanwhile losing this contest again has some screaming that the polling is rigged and others wondering if Saskatchewan should even try to enter again.

I’d hate to think that companies as big as Kraft or Sportsnet would fix a contest like this.

But maybe I’m just naïve.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

I also remember one April fools when the pats and warriors agreed to build an arena in belle plaine and share the arena? I remember hearing about it on the radio, haha. At first I was surprised by it, then remembered what day it was.

Kraft and Rogers spends hours dreaming of ways to make sure Sask never wins Hockeyville. Farhan Lalji, a true CFL expert exposed the Claypool story as fake within minutes of it being posted online. WOW

And you are the pretender so we are even. The Twitter photo proves my point. Hilarious actually. Oozing respect in the industry.
