MONDAY COMMENTARY – BUM RUSH
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)
A FEW THINGS CAUGHT MY EYE OVER THE WEEKEND …
FIRST, THE SASKATCHEWAN RUSH MADE A VERY BOLD MOVE ON SATURDAY AS LONG-TIME GM DEREK KEENAN FIRED FIRST-YEAR HEAD COACH JEFF MCCOMB AND REPLACED HIM WITH … HIMSELF.
WE’LL BE DISCUSSING THIS ON THE RP SHOW TODAY BECAUSE CO-HOST DARREN DUPONT HAS LOTS MORE INFO ON THIS SITUATION BUT WITH A 4-10 RECORD AND FOUR GAMES TO GO, KEENAN CLEARLY FEELS THIS SEASON IS SALVAGEABLE.
HE SAID THIS WAS THE TOUGHEST DECISION HE’S HAD TO MAKE IN 30-PLUS YEARS IN THE BUSINESS AND FOR THE RUSH’S SAKE, I HOPE IT WORKS OUT. THEY HOST VANCOUVER SATURDAY NIGHT AT SASKTEL CENTRE.
TO ME THE OLD ADAGE STILL RINGS TRUE – IF YOU WANT THE JOB DONE RIGHT, YOU HAVE TO DO IT YOURSELF.
MEANTIME IN THE SJHL PLAYOFFS, THE ESTEVAN BRUINS AND FLIN FLON BOMBERS ARE HALFWAY HOME. ESTEVAN’S UP 2-0 ON YORKTON IN THEIR SEMIFINAL WHILE FLIN FLON’S UP 2-0 ON HUMBOLDT IN THE OTHER.
IT WOULD BE A SHAME IF THESE WEREN’T LONG SERIES BECAUSE THE MORE HOCKEY, THE BETTER.
WE’LL FIND OUT THIS WEEK.
AND THE NHL HOCKEY IS JUST SIMPLY FASCINATING. HERE IN FLORIDA THE PANTHERS NOTCHED THEIR FRANCISE-RECORD 48TH WIN SUNDAY IN BUFFALO AND RETURN HOME TUESDAY NIGHT TO HOST THE TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS.
I’LL BE THERE HOSTING RP SHOW SPONSORS AND I’M ALREADY GETTING TINGLES THINKING ABOUT IT. I BELIEVE IT’S THE FIRST TIME I’VE SEEN THE TANDEM OF AUSTON MATTHEWS AND MITCH MARNER LIVE.
I’VE GOT PLENTY MORE NHL THOUGHTS, BUT WE’LL SPREAD THEM OUT OVER THE WEEK AHEAD. HAVE A GOOD ONE!
THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY.
