With apologies to Lorrie Morgan, I kinda like Mondays. Here’s a look back at the weekend:

#1 – You’d be nuts not to notice the Toronto Blue Jays have won eight straight to takeover first place in the AL East, by three games over the Yankees. It’s the first time since ’94 the Jays swept a homestand of 7-or-more games, and just the second time in franchise history.

I used to roll my eyes at fanbases going crazy when their teams got into first place mid-season (or before) but now that my favorite team actually did it, I gotta say it feels nice!

Onto Chicago.

#2 – Week 5 in the CFL has concluded and pardon me for saying, but it feels like it was four upsets. Look up the results yourself but the records would indicate that, although some fans in the GTA say Bo Levi and the Ticats winning at Toronto against their back-up QB isn’t an upset.

Pshaw. Oh, and Bo Levi Mitchell looks like he’s 30. Or younger.

Makes you wonder why Calgary got rid of him?

#3 – The Florida Panthers won the Stanley Cup, and free agency.

That is all.

Although I’ll give the Vancouver Canucks the silver medal. They didn’t add anybody special, per se, but they certainly didn’t lose anybody big.

And that’s a win.

And #4 – Closer to home, our Moose Jaw Miller Express came outta the weekend oh-for-3 on a homestand and as you can imagine, there’s some hand-wringing at Ross Wells Park.
They’ll figure it out. They always do.

But here’s what warms my heart: on Friday night the Ross was sold-out, with a lotta fans from the Lang/Milestone area to get a look at Saskatoon Berries star Carter Beck from the area.

On Saturday and Sunday, half of Assiniboia was in the park to watch Bulls pitcher Kaden Coldwell of the Bulls. The Millers themselves have a homegrown All Star in pitcher Nathan Pisio.

You wanna sell tickets? Sign local players. And make ‘em good.

Y’er welcome.
