The Monday Commentary is your 90 second wrap of the weekend. Here we go …

#1 – Forever I’ve refused to look at the NHL standings until at least December but I just had to this morning to get a lay of the land.

Flames fans are up in arms that they got smacked 6-2 in Detroit Sunday, wrapping up a 5-game road trip with just three out of a possible 10 points.

But they still sit fourth in the tough Pacific Division coming home for three games in Alberta this week.

It’s going to take at least till December for this team to iron out all the kinks under new coach Ryan Huska.

Why did I bother to look at the standings in the first place?

#2 – The Roughriders were eliminated from playoff contention courtesy of a home loss to Toronto Saturday night.

Some nincompoops have argued with my contention that the Riders have gone from CFL flagship franchise status to the worst team in the league. They say the Riders never were the flagship team.

Those people fit into one of three categories: 1) Have a very short memory, 2) Don’t follow the CFL that closely, or 3) Refuse to acknowledge the truth.

Either way we’re never going to convince them so we agree to disagree and move on. I don’t have the energy to argue anymore.

If you don’t like what I have to say, please ignore me.

#3 – If Sunday Night Football was a Super Bowl preview, the Miami Dolphins are in big trouble. They got whalloped 31-17 in Philly by an Eagles team who pulled away in the second half.

That should be about the last humbling the Dolphins need to endure this season. We’re nearing the halfway point.

And lastly, #4 – The NFL has said they’ll consider allowing players to participate in Flag Football at the 2028 L.A. Olympics. I assume the CFL will say the same thing.

However I’m. deadset. against. it.

I got to know those U.S. National Team players this summer in Charlotte and it’s simply wrong to have them bumped by pros for two weeks who think “it’s cool”.

Of course my opinion has no influence in the final decision but all you can do is plant your flag and then let the chips fall.

Keeping your opinion to yourself doesn’t make for very good commentaries.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Rod, re:#2, there is a 4th category, people from Winnipeg would never admit the Riders were THE flagship team!

Too many of my fellow Bomber fans have poor short term memory. It was only 10 years ago when the Riders and Bombers were in the exact opposite position. The Riders were the strong dominate team and the Bombers were the laughingstock. The league as a whole needs both franchises at the top.

No self respecting professional football player from any league should even think about stepping on a flag “football” field. If they do they should be laughed out of whatever league they come from.
