Pretty sure you can count on one hand the amount of times we’ve discussed the NBA on this commentary, in the six years we’ve been on this fine station.

In fact, you’d probably only need a couple of fingers.

But you’d have to be living under a rock to have missed Sunday’s massive trade news in the NBA where the Dallas Mavericks sent global star and 5-time All Star Luka Doncic to the L.A. Lakers for 10-time All Star and 2020 champ Anthony Davis.

It’s rocked the world, and brought about comparisons to the Gretzky trade in 1988 but that’s misguided. All these years later, not many can name who went the other way in the Gretzky deal.

No, this one is similar to last weekend’s 3-way NHL deal where Colorado’s Mikko Rantanen and Carolina’s Martin Necas switched teams.

Both guys at the top of their game, and dealt for money and salary cap reasons.

To be honest, I love it.

If there’s anything I loathe, it’s something that’s boring and predictable. Sports has become anything but that.

Perhaps the only similarity between this and the Gretzky trade is that on that August 9, 1988, that day proved there are no untouchables. Anyone can get be traded.

Don’t get comfortable.

Frankly, I’m here for it all.

The CFL pre-Free Agency window is open and players are jumping teams left and right. (Go to RodPedersen.com for a daily recap because it’s too headspinning to keep up with minute by minute).

Fans are not wrong in saying that it sucks that players, and coaches, are changing teams on a merry go-round but this is where we are.

Does it even matter how we got here?

Some will say yes, but most will say no.

We’re all best served to just enjoy the ride.

I know I am.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.
