Monday Commentary: Let Em Have Their Fun

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)

Putting a wrap on an exciting weekend, and looking ahead to a great week …

#1 – The Western Canadian Baseball League All Star game and Homerun Derby on Saturday in Okotoks was all that.

Believe me, I will never, ever take for granted the opportunities we get, like broadcasting the RP Show from the infield and getting to roam around the dugouts and baselines!

Carnduff’s Carter Beck of the Saskatoon Berries was named All Star Game MVP and was a finalist in the homerun derby, and the East Division won 13-6.

#2 – There is truly no rest for the wicked. On Sunday we were back on the highway and back to Moose Jaw in time to call the Millers’ 10-inning marathon game against the Regina Red Sox. But forget about me; I felt bad for the dozen All Stars of both teams, who had to perform again in 90 degree heat.

But then I forget they’re kids! A pair of Miller All Stars teamed up in the win, as Nathan Houston notched an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th to score teammate Austin Gurney for a huge 13-12 win for Moose Jaw and the dugout erupted.

This never gets old!

#3 – Week 7 in the CFL is in the books and it was a wild one, like all the rest.

The four games on the weekend were decided by a combined total of 20 points! The largest margin of victory was Saskatchewan’s 19-9 win over Winnipeg on Friday, and the slimmest was Calgary’s 25-24 home win over BC in Sunday’s Wally Buono Bowl at McMahon Stadium.

Life’s always about perspective – consider the old saying about the glass being half-full or half-empty.

So Rider fans are toasting the club’s first-place standing with a 5-1 record. (Believe me, I saw enough screenshots of the standings posted to social media by Sunday evening).

It reminds me a bit of Winnipeg Jets fans doing the same thing in January, and demanding respect. Then the playoffs came around and were another story (losing a first round series to Colorado in five games). We haven’t heard from them since!

But you know what? I’ve realized there’s nothing wrong with letting them have their fun.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary.

Just another little dig at the riders “or the fans” again Rod? Yes, I like many others believe you are still bitter. You always say how wonderful your life is now. Can’t you just let it go? Stop with the little digs.
