MONDAY COMMENTARY – GOD BLESS REFEREES
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98, Rock 98.5 FM & LTD Radio)
Silly me.
I thought mid-March would be a good time to return to Canada and begin our spring residency with the RP Show at Grey Eagle Resort & Casino in Calgary.
Was I wrong!
And you can add me to the list of weary travelers whose luggage was lost by one of our major airlines. All three of my bags – including broadcast gear – was lost by Air Canada as I returned to YQR but fortunately it was recovered in less than a day.
Hey, baggage people are like referees: they’ve got a tough job and nobody makes a mistake on purpose.
And speaking of referees, I was reminded of why I’ve always had the utmost respect for them while making the trek to Calgary via the TransCanada Highway. I encountered about every bad condition known to man including snow, icy patches, wind gusts, fog and ice crystals.
It was a great reminder why I spend winters in Florida.
For decades I had the luxury of putting bad conditions in the hands of a bus driver or pilot but the referees have always been on their own. And never complained.
Nor am I.
And I arrived in Cowtown just in time to catch the Flames carve up the Ottawa Senators 5-1 in a mostly soldout Saddledome. It’s always a party in there and I’m hoping to be the Flames’ good luck charm as they plow down the homestretch.
I like it here, and they seem to like my show. It’s good.
Although as my colleague & counsellor Rand Teed says, it’s good everywhere if you look for it.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Legit question;
A praire farm boy moving to Florida, did you have to reinvent yourself?
