Monday Commentary: Grow Up

(Listen daily for the RP Commentary on the All New Hits 98 CKHD & LTD Radio)
Mondays remain a day to recap the weekend, and a busy one it was. Let’s see …
#1 – It’s a sure sign hockey season is winding down. The Memorial Cup was handed out in Rimouski, Quebec on Sunday and the London Knights won their third national title, beating the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-1 in the final.
Of course I watched! I’ve watched every one since I was a little kid and I’m going to tell you, this was one of the least entertaining Mem Cup finals I’ve ever seen. But hats off to the Knights. The best team money can buy!
#2 – The Stanley Cup Final opens on Wednesday and I came out with my prediction on Sunday. For reasons I may never divulge publicly – although probably will on today’s RP Show – I’m taking the Florida Panthers to beat the Edmonton Oilers in 6 games.
That pick has drawn a lot of response, and Oiler fans have even taken to swearing at me and calling names.
Grow up.
#3 – The CFL season opens this week with what some are calling a Grey Cup preview on Thursday – Ottawa at Saskatchewan. I don’t have that match-up in the cards, and am going with Winnipeg-Toronto to meet in November in Manitoba. It’s going to be a blast making CFL picks weekly for Coolbet Canada!
CFL fans have waited a good, long time for this and it’s finally arrived.
Enjoy it to the fullest!
And #4 – After an 0-3 start, our Moose Jaw Miller Express recorded their first win of the season, 8-7 over the Weyburn Beavers in a Sunday matinee at Tom Laing Park on Sunday.
Words can’t describe how much I’m enjoying this gig as Voice of the Millers but maybe one day this summer I’ll be able to put my finger on why it’s been such a blessing.
Dugout chats like the one I had with Millers pitching coach Dustin Molleken on the weekend come to mind, when Dusty revealed he was a teammate of Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani for three seasons in Sapporo, Japan. The Regina product is one of eight Sask-born Major Leaguers. For once, it was nice to just sit and listen!
Some days you’re the bat, some days you’re the ball.
