MONDAY COMMENTARY – HELLE YEAH

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)

There was a time that I thought the NHL was broken.

But to be honest, it was so long ago that I can’t even really remember the reasons why I felt that way.

I think it had something to do with Sidney Crosby being concussed, and a myriad of other stars on the injured list at the same time. And probably something to do with clutching and grabbing.

But again, that was a heckuva long time ago.

Fast forward to nowadays, and it’s pretty difficult to find a flaw with the National Hockey League.

In fact this week represents perhaps the best this season has had to offer.

On Tuesday the Dallas Stars entertain the Toronto Maple Leafs and it’ll mark the first time in league history that two teams will oppose each other featuring players on 18-game-or-longer point streaks; Mitch Marner and Jason Robertson.

And the games themselves have been great, maybe none better than Sunday’s showcase game on NHL Network where the Minnesota Wild opened a 5-1 lead over Dallas only to hold on in a shootout for a 6-5 victory.

If that isn’t the perfect advertisement for NHL hockey, I don’t know what is.

Although you might get an argument out of Winnipeg where the Jets posted their third multi-goal comeback, beating the Anaheim Ducks 5-2, improving their surprising record to 15-7-1.

The NHL is just fine indeed.
