MONDAY COMMENTARY – HERE IT IS

That was quite a wild sports weekend!

Now that the smoke has cleared, probably the biggest news that pertains to you is the fact the combatants in the 2022 Grey Cup have been decided.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will oppose the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL championship game next Sunday at Mosaic Stadium.

Is it the dream match-up for the CFL? Likely not. No match-up that does not include the Saskatchewan Roughriders is the ideal scenario for the league.

History shows that this is the seventh time that Toronto will face Winnipeg in the Grey Cup. The Argonauts have won all six prior meetings.

And I choked on my supper Sunday night when I read Bomber coach Mike O’Shea is after his seventh Grey Cup title in this game. He won three as a player with the Argos, another as assistant coach with them, and now the last two as head coach of the Bombers.

It says here next Sunday, he’ll win #7.

But there was other sports this weekend too!

Despite never coaching a down of high level football, Jeff Saturday won his NFL debut, leading the Indianapolis Colts to a 25-20 win over the hapless Raiders on Sunday. Pundits are joking that with a winning percentage of .1000, Saturday’s now the winningest coach in NFL history.

What a scary trend Jeff and the Habs’ Martin St. Louis are setting for career coaches!

Elsewhere the Flames snapped their 7-game slide with a 3-2 home win over the Jets on Hockey Night In Canada, and the Regina Pats earned three out of a possible six points in a three-game weekend. Connor Bedard scored in ‘em all.

And I’m back on the family farm for a few days getting ready for Grey Cup Week, and being heavily reminded that what I do for a living really isn’t work at all.

And everything turned out nice again.

That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary

Since you are staying in Saskatchewan for two weeks, see if you can find out why Reynolds and O’Day seem convinced they can field a competitive team without an O-line.

how about this as well Tom – what are the riders doing for a good solid quarterback? What is their plan? Cross their fingers and hope? The pickings are slim and with Bo Levi likely signing with Hammy, who do they have as a target?
