MONDAY COMMENTARY – NO GUARANTEES

Happy Monday from Calgary, and the luxurious Grey Eagle Resort & Casino.
The RP Show on Game+ TV begins a 3-week residency here today and it’s fantastic to be back in one of Canada’s great sports towns.
When we were last here, it was July and the Flames and their fans were still licking their wounds from a 5-game series loss to the Edmonton Oilers in Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Also, Bo Levi Mitchell was the starting quarterback of the Stampeders.
So … things have changed.
Time has a way of doing that.
Now, one week into the NHL regular season, the Flames are on top of the Pacific Division after wins over Edmonton and Colorado and on Tuesday night are home to the Vegas Golden Knights.
You can bet your bottom dollar I’ll be there.
As for those Stampeders, they have two games left and they just happen to be against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. They have the chance to snuff out the Riders’ candle and know they’d love nothing more.
We’ve got plenty of time here over the next two weeks to build up those grudge matches.
Let me just say the thing I’m looking forward to the most is feeling the energy and hype around NHL games in Alberta.
Hype sells tickets, and that’s why I think those Flames and Oiler games are always sold out. It’s all anyone can talk about.
Going back to this past weekend, hype soldout the Southland Co-op Centre in Assiniboia for the first-ever game there Saturday night between the Southern Rebels and Carrot River. Hurricane Huber and I called the action.
Unfortunately the game didn’t match the hype as the home team lost 8-3.
There are never any guarantees the results will match the hype.
Just ask the Flames, and Bo Levi.
That’s today’s Rod Pedersen Commentary
