MONDAY COMMENTARY – OLE OLE OLE

(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)

SOME RANDOM THOUGHTS TO OPEN THE WEEK AFTER A WILD WEEKEND IN SPORTS:

IT’S VERY HARD NOT TO GET CAUGHT UP IN THE HYPE SURROUNDING CANADA’S MENS NATIONAL TEAM QUALIFYING FOR THE WORLD CUP COURTESY SUNDAY’S 4-0 WIN OVER JAMAICA AT BMO FIELD.

I SAID I’D GET INTO THIS THING IF CANADA QUALIFIED FOR THE 32-TEAM TOURNAMENT TO HELD IN NOVEMBER IN QATAR, AND THEY HAVE.

BUT I’VE BEEN MOST INTERESTED IN DIGGING UP INFO ON CANADIAN COACH JOHN HERDMAN – A REAL LIFE TED LASSO.

THIS GUY’S ON THE CUSP OF GOING ON CANADA’S SPORTING MOUNT RUSHMORE, EVEN IF HE IS AN ENGLISHMAN.

I’M NOT GOING TO APOLOGIZE FOR BEING SLOW TO GET ON THE CANADIAN MENS SOCCER TRAIN BECAUSE FRANKLY I NEVER GREW UP WITH THE SPORT IN RURAL SASKATCHEWAN BUT I’M ALSO NOT BULLHEADED ENOUGH TO IGNORE A SENSATIONAL STORY.

GUARANTEED MY DAD WOULD’VE REFUSED TO WATCH EVEN A SECOND OF THIS, BUT I’M WILLING TO GET ON BOARD.

AND COMING OUT OF THE WEEKEND FROM A CFL PERSPECTIVE, IT WAS INTERESTING TO AT LEAST PERUSE THE RESULTS OF THE NATIONAL COMBINE IN TORONTO WHERE THE DRAFT PROSPECTS WENT THROUGH THE BENCH PRESS, 40-YARD DASH, BROAD JUMP AND THE LIKE.

BUT I’LL NEVER FORGET RIDER GREAT SCOTT SCHULTZ SAYING, “I’LL PAY ATTENTION TO COMBINE RESULTS ONCE THEY ASK PLAYERS TO DO THE BENCH PRESS AT THE 55-YARD LINE IN THE MIDDLE OF A GAME”.

AND LASTLY HENRY BURRIS BOLTING THE BC LIONS AFTER ONLY 10 DAYS TO TAKE A JOB WITH THE JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS STILL HAS PEOPLE TALKING, AND SOME CRITICIZING.

I’VE SEEN SOME WONDERING ON SOCIAL MEDIA, “WHERE HAS THE LOYALTY GONE IN SPORTS?”

THAT, MY FRIENDS, IS A MUCH LARGER TOPIC FOR ANOTHER DAY.

THAT’S TODAY’S ROD PEDERSEN COMMENTARY.
