MONDAY COMMENTARY – RANDO’S
(Listen daily for the Rod Pedersen Commentary on Cat Country 98 & Rock 98.5 FM)
WE OPEN A NEW WEEK WITH THREE THOUGHTS IN 90 SECONDS …
#1 – THINGS HAVE TURNED IN THE CFL IN A JIFF. GOING INTO THE WEEKEND, THE FUTURES OF BO LEVI MITCHELL AND CODY FAJARDO HUNG IN THE BALANCE, SEEMINGLY HINGING ON THE RESULTS OF WEEK 12 GAMES.
WELL FAJARDO HAD A STERLING PERFORMANCE, WITH AN EFFICIENCY RATING OF 151.6, AS THE RIDERS GOT PAST THE BC LIONS 32-16 AND CATAPULTED THEMSELVES BACK INTO THE WEST DIVISION TOP 3 PLAYOFF PICTURE.
THIS WEEK THEY’VE GOT THE WINNIPEG BLUE BOMBERS IN THE LABOUR DAY CLASSIC, AND WE’LL REALLY SEE WHO’S FOR REAL.
MEANWHILE BO LEVI NEVER SAW THE FIELD IN CALGARY’S LOSS AT WINNIPEG AND DOESN’T FIGURE TO IN CALGARY’S LABOUR DAY CLASSIC AGAINST EDMONTON ON MONDAY.
THE INSIDERS PREDICT BO WILL BE HITTING THE TRADE BLOCK, BOUND FOR EASTERN CANADA.
#2 – THE NFL PRESEASON IS BEHIND US AND THE TOP LEAGUE ON THE CONTINENT NOW WAITS TWO WEEKS TO OPEN THE REGULAR SEASON.
I WAS IN ATTENDANCE TO SEE MIAMI QUARTERBACK TUA TAGOVAILOA LAUNCH A 51-YARD BOMB TO TYREEK “CHEETAH” HILL ON THE GAME’S FIRST PLAY, AND THE HIGHLIGHT IS STILL BEING REPLAYED ENDLESSLY ON THE NETWORKS.
TYREEK HAS BEEN CLOCKED AT 21.7 MPH AND HE WAS AT A SPRINT ON THAT ROUTE. DON’T THINK THAT’S FAST?
THINK ABOUT HOW FAST YOU CAN RUN ON A TREADMILL, THEN DOUBLE IT.
AND #3 – WE HAVEN’T FORGOTTEN ABOUT THE NHL ALTHOUGH WE’RE STILL ABOUT A FULL MONTH FROM MEANINGFUL PRESEASON GAMES.
THE LAST SIGNIFICANT FREE AGENT MOVES WERE PHIL KESSEL GOING TO VEGAS AND PAUL STASTNY LEAVING WINNIPEG FOR CAROLINA LAST WEEK AND WE’RE GETTING TO THE BOTTOM OF THE BARREL OF FREE AGENTS LEFT AVAILABLE.
BUT DON’T FORGET, STANLEY CUPS CAN BE WON IN THE SUMMER.
