Monday Commentary: The Shot

Holy snot! What a weekend.

Let’s start with the least-important stuff: sports.

The CFL winners in Week 6 were Toronto, Winnipeg, BC and Ottawa however it was the visiting Ottawa RedBlacks who won in the most inexplicable fashion Sunday night in Edmonton.

The final synopsis? Chris Jones the G.M. would probably fire Chris Jones the Head Coach.

Trouble is, they’re the same guy.

Of course we’re all digging into the assassination attempt of Presidential candidate Donald Trump Saturday evening in Pennsylvania. We all know what happened but it gets very murky when we try to uncover why and how it happened.

U.S. President Joe Biden condemned the incident Saturday night calling it “Sick, sick” and I wholeheartedly concur.

And finally I got the chance to discuss it all on the front porch of a farmhouse in Strasbourg, SK Sunday evening with former NFL & CFL receiver Tori Gurley who’s in the province visiting in-laws.

In the summer of 2019 I was about to turn out the lights on a 30-year media career and go full-time into the Mental Health & Addiction Recovery field before Tori called out of the blue.

We’d never met, but he asked if I’d help mentor him in the sports business as he was just coming out of his pro career as a player. I thought that sounded like a pretty good deal.

It’s been nothing but onwards and upwards for us both ever since.

It’s another one of those things I call a “God shot”.
