Monday RP Show Rundown
We’re going to reprise the daily RP Show recaps since there’s so much going on in sports! In case you missed it, here’s what was covered with a YouTube link to Monday’s episode at the bottom:
- With Moose on vacation time, CFL On TSN’s Paul LaPolice joined the show right off the hop to discuss the football happenings. With Nathan Rourke’s release from the NFL’s NY Giants and clearing waivers Monday afternoon, Lapo feels the Canadian pivot will take his time over the summer to mull over his options. Injuries in camp and during the season may open up opportunities for the 26-year old around the NFL. Regarding the Tre Ford situation with the Edmonton Elks, Paul feels it’s not a quick decision to tab Ford as the Elks’ starter for Saturday’s game at Saskatchewan. Ford came off the bench in Sunday’s blowout home loss to Hamilton and threw three touchdowns further igniting the QB controversy.
- Along with viewer participation, we touched on the Olympics Opening Ceremony, gave an Olympics update, covered the Blue Jays sweeping the Texas Rangers and LPGA Canadian Womens Open results.
- Stampeders and Nevada Wolfpack alum John Bender joined the show and opined that Nathan Rourke likely won’t get another NFL shot and may be best served to return to the CFL. Regarding the 3-4 Stampeders, John feels head coach Dave Dickenson isn’t worried and said he’s still a believer in Calgary QB1 Jake Maier.
- Sports 1440 Edmonton’s Kevin Karius joined the show and said the Elks have slipped out of the #2 position for the most popular sports team in Edmonton. He reported his co-host Eddie Steele feels the Elks are now #4 behind the Oilers, River Hawks and Stingers. Regarding the Oilers hiring Stan Bowman as GM, Karius feels it was a good hockey move but likely wouldn’t have happened without the endorsement of Sheldon Kennedy and Kyle Beach.
