MONDAY RUNDOWN: #1,000!

We celebrated the 1,000th episode of The RP Show in fine style on Monday with plenty of special guest appearances, including Moose himself, at The Beach House in Pompano Beach, FL on Game+ TV, WQEE & Streaming! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont opened with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: *Favourite show memories and Moose presented Rod with a Silver Stick commemorating the 1,000th show*, 1) NHL leftovers including the Golden Knights bouncing the Oilers in six games, 2) What’s with the 10 pm ET start time for Vegas/Edmonton? (Turns out ESPN dictated it due to their Sunday Night Baseball commitment), 3) The Blue Jays swept the Braves with a thrilling 6-5 win on Sunday, 4) NBA Playoffs, 5) CFL Round-up, and 6) WHL & Centennial Cup talk, and NLL Playoffs.
  • There were several videotaped well-wishes from past RP Show guests and friends including Geroy Simon, Nik Lewis, Jamie Macoun, Randy Moller, The Sports Doctor, Kelly Remple, Arland Bruce III, Jim Hopson, Chris Getzlaf, Mike Morreale and many, many more.
  • Columbus Blue Jackets TV Voice Jeff Rimer makes his summer home in South Florida and joined the gang live at the Beach House for Stanley Cup Playoff analysis, the Blue Jackets missing out on Connor Bedard and much more. Jeff was the original Voice of the Panthers for their first 12 seasons and told many stories of his time with the Cats.
  • Grey Cup champion Riders lineman Mike Abou-Mechrek appeared live via video for some show memories and an update on Rider training camp. Abou said he’s pleased with how the re-worked offensive line is coming along.
  • The daily Key Auto Group poll question was: Is it good or bad for the NHL to have an all-Southern Final Four? (Dallas, Vegas, Florida & Carolina) At press time, 60% of respondents said bad.
  • 13-year NHL veteran and scout/broadcaster Rich Sutter joined the show via video to explain why the Oilers lost out to the Golden Knights, more on the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and renewed acquaintances with Jeff Rimer as Sutter spent many years as a Jackets scout.
  • RP Show hockey analyst Sarina Taylor joined the show at the Beach House and brought her trademark hot takes including officiating/discipline in the Oilers/Golden Knights series, the remarkable Panthers run, and she answered plenty of viewer questions. She quipped that she probably won’t watch the playoffs any longer this spring.
  • Sportsnet’s Arash Madani was next up, via video, and said his next assignment is covering the NBA Playoffs. Arash and Rod did a deep dive on this year’s hoops playoffs, told more stories and shared plenty of laughs.
  • Moose rejoined the show for Overtime as they put a wrap on the show and looked ahead to the next 1,000 shows.
