MONDAY RUNDOWN
With the Centennial Cup behind us, it was back to business as usual with Episode #767 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Monday! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont got it going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) A wild Sunday in hockey with a controversial Finland 4-3 OT win over Canada in the World Mens Hockey Championship and Brooks’s 4-1 win over Pickering in the Centennial Cup final, 2) Jason Spezza retires and joins the Maple Leafs front office while reporter Steve Simmons takes a swipe at Mike Babcock. Why is Toronto so toxic?, 3) CFL Preseason Week 1 recap, 4) The Blue Jays sweep the Angels for the first time in 30 years, 5) USA Today published a list of the worst sports owners. Do we agree with them?, and 6) The 2022 CEBL season has tipped off and it appears the league – in its fourth season – is gaining traction.
- The entire Hour 1 featured the regular hosts and they went deep into all the above topics. Viewers wondered why all CFL exhibition games can’t at least be video streamed? Regarding the Stampeders’ aggressive defensive play calls late in a 41-6 rout of BC, RP and Moose had no problem with it but agreed it’s something the Lions will want to file away as motivation. The sports owners discussion got a lot of play as well and viewers chimed in with their worst owners list and it included Bruce McNall, Nelson Skalbania, Michael Feterik, Harold Ballard and Peter Pocklington.
- NHL great and Bet Regal NHL Ambassador Bernie Nicholls joined the show from Toronto in Hour 2 for a lengthy dissection of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He felt the better team won in the Edmonton/Calgary series, and said Toronto would’ve beaten Florida had they met in Round 2. Regarding the Round 3 battle between Colorado and Edmonton, Broadway Bernie said it’s too close to call but figures it’ll be a fast series!
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who wins Game 7 Monday night between Carolina and New York? At press time 53% voted for the Hurricanes.
- Friday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was 3DownNation’s John Hodge. Monday’s was Bernie Nicholls.
