MONDAY RUNDOWN: BABCOCK TALK & FOOTBALL WRAP

It was a very spicy episode to open a brand new week on Monday’s Episode #1,083 of The RP Show – Daytime Sportstalk – on Game+TV, WQEE Radio, Podcast and YouTube Live! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont got things going with The Warmup discussing these Quick Six show topics: 1) The Blue Jays sweep the Red Sox, 2) Mike Babcock is OUT in Columbus, 3) NFL Week 2 included the Cowboys, Dolphins & Titans all winning, 4) CFL Week 15 wrap, 5) NHL Rookie Tournament observations, and 6) College Football and Canada West weekend wrap.
  • TSN’s Ottawa’s Claire Hanna joined the show and gave a report on the Nation’s Capital teams. She said RedBlacks fans are super down but she missed most of the team’s summer losses due to vacation. Rod surmised the only way through it is to keep chopping wood, similar to the Edmonton Elks. Claire predicts a better season for the Senators and that captain Brady Tkachuk is tired of missing the playoffs. However she explained that it’s too early to say if the ownership change will bring improvement on the ice, or team culture.
  • The daily Key Auto Group poll question was: Should Mike Babcock have had to resign in Columbus? At press time over 70% of respondents said yes.
  • TSN hockey analyst Craig Button joined the show and had some damning comments about Mike Babcock. “The bottom line is that Mike, through his actions, demonstrated that he’s learned very little from the Toronto Maple Leafs,” Button began. “I’d like to give him a big benefit of the doubt by saying he learned very little. I’d say he’s learned nothing. There’s no acknowledgement of his wrong-doings, no apology for what he did, and that to me is a clear demonstration of someone who doesn’t understand, doesn’t want to understand, his impact and the way that he has treated players. It’s wrong. There’s no other way to put it and at the end of the day, what I say is ‘Good riddance to Mike Babcock’. If you want to try to improve, if you want to be apologetic, we will wait and judge that down the road but at this point in time, on this day, Monday, September 18, there has been no growth in Mike Babcock. And I’m not so sure that he even wants to acknowledge his wrong-doings and that’s on him. All I can say is good riddance.”
  • Friday’s Rockstar of the Day was Jo Madden. Monday’s was Craig Button!
