MONDAY RUNDOWN: BRADY, MATTHEWS, FLAMES & MORE!

We cracked the lid on a brand new week with Episode #715 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Monday from Grey Eagle Resort & Casino! Read on for the rundown:

  • With Moose will doing business in Arizona, RP opened the show with co-host Lee Genier (Sports Executive & Entrepreneur) covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Tom Brady’s retirement lasted 40 days and he’ll be returning for a 23rd NFL season, 2) Sunday NHL leftovers including the Auston Matthews crosscheck against Buffalo, 3) Brad Gushue wins the Brier in Lethbridge, 4) Josh Donaldson is now a Yankee, 5) Weather chaos at the PGA Championship, and 6) The Raptors are on a roll and the BCLA tournament opens Monday night in Calgary with the Edmonton Stingers versus Puerto Rico.
  • The bulk of Hour 1 was spent on all the weekend sports goings-on including WHL and NLL results plus CFL happenings. The NFL legal tampering window opened on Monday morning and the first news was QB Mitch Trubisky heading to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rod said it’s not a stellar free agent crop.
  • Technical issues prevented us from joining Sportsnet Fantasy Insider Andy McNamara so we continued to breakdown the Brady news – the panel feels it’s great for the NFL – and the Auston Matthews situation. Rod felt the suspension is worth of 5+ games while Lee opted for a 2-game suspension. (News came down during the show that Matthews will sit for two).
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: How many games should Auston Matthews get? – 1, 2, 3 or 4+? At press time, 2-games was leading.
  • TSN Calgary’s Salim Valji joined the show on a Flames off-day. He felt the 2-games for Matthews was appropriate. Regarding the Flames’ 3-0 loss at Colorado Sunday – 24 hours after a 3-0 home win over Detroit – Salim felt it’s not too alarming. He feels Calgary was suffering from fatigue after playing five games in seven nights. Calgary has a couple days off before hosting New Jersey on Wednesday night. Valji also detailed his own personal story and the Edmonton product said his plan was to become a teacher but after an exchange program in Montreal, he wound up in the sports media which led him to Calgary.
  • Friday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Stampeders voice Mark Stephen. Monday’s was Lee Genier!
  • Join us Tuesday at 12 pm ET on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive from Grey Eagle.
