MONDAY RUNDOWN: CONACHER, MAHER & MORE!
We kicked off a brand new week by recapping a big sports weekend and welcoming some Stanley Cup champions down to Ace Casino Airport Calgary on Monday! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont opened the proceedings covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Weekend NHL leftovers including controversial calls and great games, 2) The Blue Jays win their series with the Yankees, beating NY 5-1 on Sunday, 3) Dub Hub – Game 6 between ICE & Warriors and Game 7 between Rebels & Blades, 4) NFL Draft Week, 5), Monday night’s NHL games and 6) The NBA is reaching the end of Round 1 of the playoffs.
- Hall of Fame Calgary Flames broadcaster Peter Maher dropped into Ace Casino for a look at the Stanley Cup Playoffs and other NHL happenings. Pete says Commissioner Gary Bettman is NOT against a Canadian team winning the Stanley Cup, and also feels the officiating in the playoffs has been good. Maher feels the Kings/Oilers series has been the best in Round 1 and also surmised that former Flame Craig Conroy would make the best next GM of the Calgary Flames.
- 1984 Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup champion and former Regina Pats head coach Pat Conacher joined the show for more hockey talk. Conacher recently wrapped up 10 years with the Vancouver Canucks organization and is now enjoying his family and following hockey. He also agrees the Kings/Oilers series has been the best, and predicted Edmonton won’t lose another game. Pat and Rod debated who should start in goal for Edmonton in Game 5 and they disagreed, with Conacher suggesting Jack Campbell and Rod opting for Stuart Skinner. Conacher also brushed on his two seasons coaching the Regina Pats and said forward Jordan Weal is the unsung hero in Pats history, likely a better junior player than Connor Bedard!
- The Key Auto Group daily poll question was: Are Canadian teams getting shafted in the Stanley Cup playoffs? 64% of respondents said no.

Weal better than Bedard. Really! Did he pack the rinks? Was he number 1 overall? What were his stats compared to Bedard? Did he light it up for juniors at World Championships? Hmmm. Really? I’m not a hockey coach though.
Neither is Pat Conacher.
You want to know why Vancouver turned over 5 Amateur Scouts upon Jim Rutherford’s hiring – him being one of the five? When you show up at the scouting meeting and say something like that or similar statements.It shows either CTE is a real thing – that or a person is just dumb.
