MONDAY RUNDOWN: HOCKEY TALK & BREAKING FOOTBALL NEWS

Our third week at Calgary’s Entertainment Destination – Grey Eagle Resort & Casino – kicked off in fine fashion on Monday with Episode #976 of The RP Show on Game+ TV, YouTube Live and WQEE! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked it all off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Weekend NHL leftovers and Dub playoff preview, 2) It’s down to the Final Four in March Madness, 3) CFL Combine notes, 4) Dell Match Play results, 5) In the NBA, the Hawks fell 123-119 to the Grizzlies and the Raptors topped the Wizards 119-104, and 6) Weekend recap including NLL, Blue Jays and more.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Do you believe Hockey Is For Everyone? At press time close to 70% of respondents said yes. Rod went on an impassioned monologue on how indeed it is for everyone and that hockey isn’t the problem; people are.
  • Breaking news came down from ESPN’s Adam Schefter during The Warmup that Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson requested a trade weeks ago. The panel broke it down and Rod gave his thoughts on Lamar serving as his own agent.
  • Edmonton Elks Voice and longtime Oilers colour commentator Morley Scott joined the show for a CFL Combine wrap and said his biggest takeaway was simply the magnitude of the event. It was his first, and he came away very impressed. Scott gave an outlook for the 2023 Elks season and said he feels the Green & Gold can push for second place in the CFL West. Regarding the Oilers and their game at Arizona on Monday night, Morley feels the team has a chance to finish first in the Pacific Division and said they’re a way better team than last year. However Morley said Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft said he’s not too concerned with where the team finishes as long as they’re in the playoffs and go on a long run.
  • In Hour 2 we were joined by Lethbridge Hurricanes General Manager Peter Anholt. The Naicam, SK product discussed being appointed to Hockey Canada’s management team for next year’s World Juniors, previewed the Canes first round series with Moose Jaw and took questions from viewers.
  • New RP Show Sales Coordinator Kevin Hughes joined the show to discuss his new appointment, give his thoughts on attending the CFL Combine, and explained his lifelong love of the B.C. Lions and Vancouver Canucks.
  • Friday’s Rockstar of the Day was Randy Chevrier. Monday’s was Peter Anholt!
