IMG_6515

It turned out to be a very emotional show on Monday’s Episode #923 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports Talk – on Game+ TV, WQEE and YouTube Live! Here’s the rundown:

  • RP and pinch-hitting co-host Jim Lang kicked the proceedings off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Rick Tocchet is introduced as head coach of the Vancouver Canucks, replacing Bruce Boudreau, 2) Johnny Hockey returns to Calgary Monday night with the Columbus Blue Jackets, 3) Sunday NFL Divisional Playoff games – SF 19-DAL 12, CIN 27-BUF 10, 4) Saturday NFL Divisional Playoff games – KC 27-JAX 20, PHI 38-NYG 7, 5) Brooke Henderson wins her 13th LPGA tournament, and 6) Raptors down the Knicks 125-116 while the Hawks visit the Bulls Monday night.
  • Jim Lang is well known as Canada’s foremost NFL expert and in Segment 2 he delved deeply into the NFL Playoffs, Dallas’s bizarre ending to the San Fran game, a breakdown of the Conference Championship games, and answered plenty of viewer questions.
  • Stanley Cup champion and Vancouver Canucks alum Brent Sopel joined the show from Chicago and ripped into the Canucks, calling them “gutless” for their treatment of Bruce Boudreau and accused President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford of “lying”. Sopel asked why any Vancouver players would want to play for the team anymore? As a Montreal Canadiens alum, Sopel examined the rebuild in Montreal and said the future looks very bright.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Will Rick Tocchet be able to turn the Canucks around? At press time over 90% of respondents voted no.
  • In Hour 2, regular co-host Darren Dupont joined the show and gave his opinions on all the above topics.
  • Super Bowl champion and NFL/CFL alum Jon Ryan joined the show from his home in Los Angeles and provided a life update. Jon reported he’s now purchased four minor league baseball teams and that’s where his focus lies. The Regina product described his retirement as “painful” but said he’s just not motivated any longer to put the work in to return for another season. Ryan reflected on his pro career saying his initial goal was only to get into ONE game! He also discussed the career of his actress wife Sarah Colonna and the pair’s plans for Life After Football.
  • Friday’s Rockstar of the Day was Farhan Lalji. Monday’s was Jon Ryan!
  • If you missed the show you can catch the replay at 10 pm PT/12 am CT on Game+ TV, on our YouTube Channel or wherever you enjoy your podcasts.
  • See you at 12 pm ET on Tuesday on Game+ TV WQEE and YouTube Live!

I would caution anyone to feel sorry for poor Bruce Boudreau. Long before the internet the only way to get hockey news was through the Hockey News.

Bruce was a long time prolific IHL scorer. The section Minding The Minors mentioned him all the time. His first coaching job was to assist Stanley Cup winning coach Jean Perron.

Basically he undermined him at every turn and that San Francisco team was a one season disaster. Hockey people have long memories so nobody feels sorry for anybody. Not at $2M a year either.

I read yesterday what the winning purse was for Brooke Henderson for the golf tournament this past weekend. It surprised me, it was a lowly $250,000US. Now that is a lot of money but when you compare to what the men make for winning a tournament, it is over $1Million every time, sometimes even way more than that. That is a joke, the ladies golf is all as good as the mens, in fact I like it more. Just my 2 cents.

Okay well – maybe she should go sell more tickets heh? I’ll list you 10 guys off the top of my skull on the PGA tour that people will line up to watch – it isn’t a tour carried by one guy. Go check prior to 1997. – what were the purses for the 18 Majors that Jack Nickaul won, 9 Gary Player won, and I think Arnie had 6 or 7. ….maybe those guys eeked out a living on tour, but they all made their bones doing golf course design. The rest of the guys were like 1980s pro… Read more »
