MONDAY RUNDOWN: LOADS O’ FOOTBALL AND HOCKEY TALK
We came out of a blistering weekend with Monday’s Episode #918 and we covered it all on The RP Show – Daytime Sports Talk – on Game+ TV, WQEE and YouTube Live! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont kicked things off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NHL leftovers including the Vancouver Canucks mess with Bruce Boudreau and the passing of Canucks great Gino Odjick, 2) The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question pitted the L.A. Kings against St. Louis Blues in Round 2 of our NHL Retro Reverse Jersey Bracket (L.A. led the vote at press time with nearly 70%), 3) NHL goalie Robin Lehner files for bankruptcy and the biggest reason is his failed Exotic Snake farm in Missouri, 4) BC Lions QB Nathan Rourke signs with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars but he rankled Canadian fans by saying his CFL stint was an “unexpected detour”, 5) NFL Super Wild Card Weekend wrap and 6) Dallas Cowboys (-2.5) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Monday night.
- 3Down Nation CFL Insider Justin Dunk joined the show to explain the Rourke/Jaguars signing and he said it came down to Nathan’s ties with the Jacksonville coaching staff and roster. Regarding the “unexpected detour” comment, Dunk didn’t have an issue with it and said all Rourke’s dreamt of is being an NFL quarterback. With CFL free agency looming, Justin said it’s going to be wild and said the buzz suggests Cody Fajardo will sign with Montreal and Dane Evans will sign in Saskatchewan.
- In Hour 2 we examined the NHL story with the regular season passing the midway point and we were joined by Bet Regal NHL Ambassador Bernie Nicholls. The Kings & Rangers great said he hasn’t liked the way Bruce Boudreau has handled his lineup and agreed with Rod that Vancouver needs to sign some veteran Stanley Cup winners. Regarding the Stanley Cup chase and favourites, Bernie said there are too many strong teams at the moment to make a prediction.
