MONDAY RUNDOWN: LOADS OF CFL & NFL TALK, PLUS WORLD JUNIORS WRAP
We kicked off a brand new week with Episode #825 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports Talk – on Game+ TV on Monday. Here’s the rundown!:
- RP and Moose Dupont got things going with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Canada wins its 19th gold medal at the World Juniors with a dramatic 3-2 OT win over Finland Saturday night in Edmonton, 2) Sunday in NFL preseason games, the Eagles, Giants and Ravens all won, 3) Week 11 CFL wrap, 4) What’s the future for the B.C. Lions without Nathan Rourke?, 5) As predicted (unfortunately not by Rod), Moira wins the Queen’s Plate at Woodbine, and 6) The Blue Jays take 3 of 4 off the Yankees in New York.
- With the World Juniors behind us, Rod’s back in Florida and told the story of lining up a seat at Saturday’s Eagles-Dolphins NFL preseason game at Hard Rock Stadium. The crew’s excited to get back to NFL coverage! Moose was spending his last day at Canada Summer Games in St. Catherines, ON (Ontario won) and recapped the past two weeks where he worked on the social media team.
- Edmonton Elks President Victor Cui joined the show to discuss Friday’s 30-12 win at Ottawa and said he forgot what a beautiful city the nation’s capital is, and applauded the RedBlacks for a fantastic game day presentation! Victor didn’t talk a lot of X’s and O’s, but went deep on restoring pro football in Edmonton to its glory days and said they’re proud of the “Eskimos” past, and they love to celebrate it. Victor admitted it’s going to take a lot of work but said he likes to emulate Rod’s hustle and looks forward to great days ahead for the franchise.
- In Hour 2, RP Show Corp C.O.O. Lee Genier joined the show from Calgary for a deep dive on Week 11 in the CFL and predicted Bo Levi Mitchell will start for Calgary on Thursday night at Winnipeg. The guys also discussed the heat on Rider QB Cody Fajardo and Rod said Rider fans’ historic criticism of their QBs is “crazy and sad”. The comment caused quite a stir.
- Saskatchewan Rush GM Derek Keenan joined the show to detail the club’s off-season including re-signing defender Kyle Rubisch but losing captain Chris Corbeil. Keenan said he wasn’t pleased with how the Las Vegas expansion draft went down but said he’ll live with it! The GM discussed the decision to remove the interim tag from head coach Jimmy Quinlan and said the franchise is well down the rebuild path. He smiled that Saskatoon NLL fans have been spoiled with the team’s success since relocating from Edmonton in 2016 and feels they’ll have a great season in 2022-23 after missing the playoffs this past season.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who should start at QB for the Riders in Week 12 – Cody Fajardo, Mason Fine or Jake Dolegala? At press time, Fine was leading.
- Friday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Lee Genier! Monday’s was Victor Cui.
