We reflected on a great sports weekend and previewed the week with Monday’s Episode #730 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Game+ TV! Read on for the rundown:

  • RP and Moose Dupont kicked things off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) Florida Panthers playoff tickets go on sale on Friday!, 2) The Beagle/Terry incident from Friday’s Arizona/Anaheim NHL game is the buzz of hockey, 3) Kyle Lowry returned to Toronto with the Heat and was victorious, 4) NFL free agency signings, 5) CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie tests positive for Covid, 6A) The Rush replace their coach, 6B) LPGA (Brooke Henderson falls short, and 6C) Nascar.
  • We went deep on the Beagle/Terry situation – spanning two segments – and Rod said the NHL needs to decide if it’s going to be a glorified skills competition or remain a tough league. Moose’s take was that when the Ducks’ Troy Terry couldn’t fight back, the Coyotes Jay Beagle should’ve stopped punching. RP defended Coyotes colour commentator Tyson Nash who’s taken a lot of heat for roasting the Ducks for “skilling it up”.
  • The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Should Jay Beagle face discipline for beating up Troy Terry? At press time, results were around 50/50.
  • Edmonton Oilers colour commentator Bob Stauffer joined the show from San Jose where the Oilers will take on the Sharks on Tuesday, following Sunday’s 6-1 win at Anaheim. Stauff said he’s an old school hockey fan, but wasn’t comfortable with Friday’s events in Glendale. Regarding the recent surge of the Oilers, Bob said they’re a much different team over the past two months and explained how. So informative was the chat that Stauffer stayed on for two full segments and answered several viewer questions!

  • In Hour 2 we were joined by TSN CFL Insider Dave Naylor for a pretty deep CFL chat. “Nayls” is keenly following the CFL/CFLPA CBA talks and said the two sides have been communicating informally over the past few weeks. Neither he nor Rod expect a labour disruption in 2022. Regarding the finances of the CFL, Naylor said “Well the salary cap won’t be going up.” Regarding the stellar showing of Waterloo QB Tre Ford and a solid pro day in Buffalo, Dave said he doesn’t expect Ford will see an NFL opportunity. And regarding CFL expansion to Atlantic Canada, Naylor said last week’s news conference for Touchdown Atlantic seemed much more than just an announcement about the game. He said the Schooners ownership group has been very quiet lately, but it seems like something’s brewing.
  • Friday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Pittsburgh Penguins radio voice Josh Getzoff. Monday’s was Bob Stauffer.
  • Monday’s show is available for viewing now on our YouTube channel or you can listen to the podcast wherever you enjoy the best podcasts including Apple, Stitcher and Spotify.
  • See you at 12 pm ET on Tuesday on Game+ TV Network, YouTube Live and RodPedersen.com/ListenLive!

2) The Beagle/Terry incident from Friday’s Arizona/Anaheim NHL game is the buzz of hockey There are 2 Analysts that actually have a clue what they are talking about. Tyson Nash and Tripp Tracy with Carolina. What people are not getting is this. Was that an excessive beat down? Yes. Was it against a defenseless player? Yes. Was it about THAT particular play? Not at all. This was payback for the Michigan Lacrosse b.s. goals, and the yamming it up when you have a lead. I have long said by all means score by any means necessary. When you pull that… Read more »
