MONDAY RUNDOWN: NYHUS TALK, NICHOLLS, LANG & MORE
We cracked the lid on a new week of sports talk with Episode #891 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Game+ TV and WQEE Radio! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) A recap of the boys’ weekends including Rod sharing an elevator ride with Paulina Gretzky at the Panthers game, 2) Who is the best NHL team in Canada? And we announced the launch of a NHL Reverse Retro Jersey bracket, 3) CFL buzz including Bo Levi’s landing spot, 4) NFL Week 12, 5) The Roughriders add Saskatchewan Huskies QB Mason Nyhus to their negotiation list, and 6) Canada bows out at the World Cup.
- Regarding the status of Mason Nyhus, Rod said the neg list news should lead to a signing and said all Mason needs is an opportunity to show his stuff in training camp. Dupont said Mason possesses the brain and arm that are necessary, but may lack mobility. Maybe we’ll find out in camp!
- Bet Regal NHL Ambassador Bernie Nicholls joined the show and explained why he feels the Edmonton Oilers are Canada’s best NHL team. (“They have the best player,” Nicholls argued. “Connor McDavid.”) The Kings & Rangers great also explained why he feels it’s a great thing that McDavid kills penalties for Edmonton and wishes the Leafs would do the same with Auston Matthews. Bernie also said the best coach he ever played for was Pat Quinn.
- In Hour 2 we chatted more NHL/NFL/CFL stuff, the Vanier Cup broadcast on CBC, and then were joined by Canada’s foremost NFL expert Jim Lang. Jim delved into Week 12 results and explained why former NFL coaches Jimmy Johnson and Bill Cowher are so upset that Jeff Saturday got hired in Indianapolis despite never having coached football before! Once we opened up the chat to viewers, they peppered the panel with questions about the Leafs, Jets and Connor Bedard.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who is Canada’s best NHL team? Flames, Jets, Maple Leafs or Oilers? Toronto won the vote on YouTube while Winnipeg was voted tops on Twitter.
- If you missed the show you can catch the replay at 10 pm PT/12 am CT on Game+ TV, on our YouTube Channel or catch the podcast wherever you enjoy your podcasts.
- See you at 12 pm ET on Tuesday on Game+ TV and WQEE Radio!
