MONDAY RUNDOWN: STANLEY CUP WRAP & CFL BUZZ
We lifted the lid on a brand new week at the Grey Eagle Event Centre with Episode #787 of The RP Show – Daytime Sports & Entertainment Talk – on Game+ TV! Here’s the rundown:
- RP and Moose Dupont kicked it off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) A weekend sports wrap which included CFL and CPL, 2) Colorado wins the Stanley Cup in Game 6 over Tampa Bay, 3) CFL Week 3 buzz and BC’s Nathan Rourke remains the #1 story, 4) Hamilton faces Shawinigan in the Memorial Cup semifinal Monday night, 5) Wimbledon gets going, and 6) More on the Canadian Premiere League and Canadian Elite Basketball League.
- Bet Regal NHL Ambassador Bernie Nicholls joined the show from Southern Ontario for a Stanley Cup Final wrap and he quoted his Mom saying it’s the worst day of the year with no more NHL hockey! Regarding the Cup, Bernie feels the best team won and said the Avalanche are primed for many years of winning. He feels Colorado’s Joe Sakic is a slam-dunk for NHL GM of the Year. The Kings and Rangers great also explained the toll the playoffs take on players’ bodies and said it’ll be a long summer of recovery for players on both teams.
- We had a ton of CFL chat and we went deep into the Week 3 games and looked ahead to Week 4. Rod said it’s too early for the Nathan Rourke-to-NFL talk but the viewers disagreed! The play of Trevor Harris, the improvement of the Elks and the Ticats 0-3 record were all discussed.
- TSN NHL Insider Darren Dreger joined the show in Hour 2 and said the Memorial Cup in Saint John has been the dream scenario. Dregs also got into his scoop that Barry Trotz won’t coach this season but was quick to point out the Winnipeg Jets did everything they could to sign Trotzie. On the Jets head coach search, Dreger said the Winnipeg braintrust is starting over and mentioned the names Rick Tocchet and Jeff Blashill. Regarding Paul Maurice heading to Florida, Darren feels it’s a perfect fit and said Panthers GM Bill Zito has done a great job of making Sunrise a preferred destination for NHL coaches and players.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Who will win the Stanley Cup next year – Colorado, Tampa Bay, Toronto or Other? At press time, Other was leading by a mile.
- Friday’s Rockstar of the Day for RoxDar Supply Chain Solutions was Mike Abou-Mechrek. Monday’s was Darren Dreger!
