MONDAY RUNDOWN: TRADE FRENZY! XFL, BLUE JAYS AND MORE
We cracked the lid on a brand new week with Monday’s Episode #947 of The RP Show – Daytime Sportstalk – on Game+ TV, WQEE, YouTube Live and IHeartRadio! Here’s the rundown:
- RP (live from Florida) and Moose Dupont (live from the Canada Winter Games in PEI) kicked things off with The Warmup covering these Quick Six show topics: 1) NHL trade frenzy! Will there be any moves left by Friday’s Trade Deadline?, 2) Week 2 in the XFL saw St. Louis, D.C., San Antonio and Houston win. The panel feels the XFL is not as good as the CFL, 3) MLB’s rules changes get a thumbs down on opening weekend of exhibition play (the Blue Jays went 1-1), 4) In the NBA, the Hawks are 2-0 since firing coach Nate McMillan and the Raptors got spanked by the Cavaliers, 5) Kerri Einarson wins a fourth straight Scotties title, and 6) Weekend sports randoms including NLL and WHL play.
- Sports Illustrated Maple Leafs writer David Alter joined the show to recap Sunday’s 5-1 Toronto victory at Seattle and preview this week’s trip through Alberta. Alter felt the Leafs aren’t done on the trade front and by the end of the show, he was proved to be right! He and Rod debated the Kraken’s “Welcome Back” video tribute for former captain Mark Giordano. RP thought it was overdone while David thought it was appropriate.
- The daily Capital Auto Mall/Universal Collision Centre poll question was: Did Tampa Bay give up too much for Tanner Jeannot? At press time 80% of respondents said yes.
- In Hour 2 news broke that the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Jake McCabe and Sam Lafferty from Chicago in a blockbuster swap. Best-selling Leafs author Jim Lang – who doubles as Canada’s foremost NFL expert – joined the show from Toronto and said the Leafs needed McCabe to fill the spot vacated by the injured Jake Muzzin. However Jim’s still skeptical the Leafs will be able to get it done come playoff time. Viewers were eager to get Lang’s NFL views including the future of quarterbacks Derek Carr, Aaron Rodgers and Mac Jones.
- Friday’s Rockstar of the Day was Jim Hopson. Monday’s was Jim Lang!
